Would my alternator being faulty cause my car's ability to maintain a certain speed and shifting capabilities faulty?

I had to get a jump after stopping for gas and within 5 miles my car started shifting down extremely hard and would speed up and slow down erratically on it's own accord. The radio and blinkers stopped working and my panel kept jumping around....help :(

Possibly - the task of the alternator is to recharge the battery from the starting of the engine and to power many electrical accessories. Have the charging system checked - including the alternator output - for free -at any local auto parts store.
Check the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.drivewire.com or www.rockauto.com for the replacement parts.
For example, they (RockAuto) list the alternator from around $102.00 for your vehicle.
