2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser Base 6 Cyl 4.0L - Engine
alternator and battery size (CCA)
I just had to replace the alternator on my FJ Cruiser and the mechanic said it was due to an undersize replacement battery. Is this plausible? I was going to take the battery back to the place that sold it to me for my money back on that, at least.

Yes it possible. The IC of your alternator got busted. It got used to shutting on and off quickly due to the fact that your battery is smaller than what is required.
