3.6 Pentastar Oil filter bypass valve

So I was doing the oil change when I noticed that the Oil filter bypass valve was broken. A common problem in this engine supposedly. I was able to fish out the spring but not the little plastic piece. I think it fell inside the housing, maybe into one of the holes. How bad is this? Such a bummer to have to pull the engine apart.

You will want to retrieve the piece. It may do engine damage if it manages to block or get lodged in one of the oil passages.
