2002 BMW 325i Base 6 Cyl 2.50L

Engine

325 will not start when the gas gauge needle does not move. Car will turn over but not start.

Car will not start when the gas gauge needle does not move. The engine will turn over but not start.
I noticed that if I turn the key 2 clicks (just before turning the engine over) and the gas gauge moves the car will always start. If the gas gauge doesn't move the car will turn over but not start. Sometimes car starts right up. Other times I have to do it 3 times. Do I have bad ignition switch or something else? No stuck on check engine light after doing this. Help.

Try this resource:

"BMW E46 hidden OBC functions." Test #2 will exercise the gauge cluster. The needle in the temperature and fuel level gauges should go from fully empty (fuel gauge) to completely full. Test #6 will show you the amount of fuel in both fuel tanks.
