1990 Ford Aerostar transmission/vacuum issue

My dad has a 1990 Ford Aerostar. When he drove it today, it wouldn't shift into 2nd gear. I'm not a mechanic but went over to help him. He lives near a field and last night, a rat decided to chew on some vacuum hoses. We replaced the damaged ones and it still wouldn't shift into 2nd. When we removed the inside cover to the engine, we found a larger hose that it had chewed. We fixed the hose but noticed that one end of it wasn't attached. The hose is attached to a metal line that comes up from the transmission. The other end goes 'somewhere" but we can't find where it should be. We used a flashlight and looked for over an hour and we still can't figure it out. Again, I'm not a mechanic but if someone can give me directions, I think I can connect the hose (maybe with a clamp so it doesn't come off again) and it might fix the issue.

The vacuum modulator at the transmission has a vacuum line which runs to the engine.
If there is a hole, or the line is off - then the transmission will not shift.
