Safety Tip:
Always wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle. Wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, for example latex gloves or closed toe shoes.

Raise the vehicle and support on jack stands. Locate the catalytic converter.

Tap the catalytic converter with a rubber mallet to reproduce the noise being heard. If it is the same noise, replace the catalytic converter.

Use penetrant spray and thoroughly pre-soak the bolts for ease of removal. Unbolt the mounting clamps holding the catalytic converter to the pipe.

Remove the catalytic converter.

Clean all mounting surfaces. Remove burrs on the metal pipes to allow the new converter to slide on easier.

Install the new converter and tighten the clamps back so that the converter is secure and in place.
