Always wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle. Wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, for example latex gloves or closed toe shoes.
Park the vehicle on a solid level surface. Set the parking brake and chock the rear wheels.
Using a floor jack, raise the front of the vehicle.
Support the vehicle with jack stands on both sides for safety before starting any work. Do not rely on the jack to hold the vehicle up while working.
Rotate the tire and listen for any noise from the wheel bearing. Grab the wheel and tire assembly at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and attempt to rock the tire. If you feel any play, the bearings are worn.
Remove the wheel and tire assembly from the hub.
Remove the brake caliper and mounting bracket from the steering knuckle. Remove the brake disc (rotor) from the hub.
For front wheel drive vehicles, remove the axle hub nut.
Gain access to the back side of the hub assembly.
Unbolt the wheel hub assembly from the steering knuckle. Remove the hub assembly.
Install the new wheel hub assembly in the steering knuckle.
Reinstall the axle nut, brake disc and caliper. Torque the axle nut and caliper mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
Reinstall the wheel and tire assembly. Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications in a star pattern.
Lower the vehicle and road test to verify your repairs.
