Repair/Service: 2nd Opinion
Hourly Rate: $45.00
Total Cost: $88.68
I was told by a dealership that I need $1300.00 worth of work done on my 2006 Subaru Outback (45000 miles) so I asked a friend for a referral because I wanted a second opinion and he recommended Green Mountain Auto. They checked everything the dealer listed and reported to me that it was the worst "upsale" they had ever seen. All my car really needed was a new cabin air filter and a piston pin tightened. The dealership was trying to talk me into a timing belt change, new DOJ boots, and new drive belts using the leaking piston pin and air filter to get into repairs-a kind of "while we are fixing these, you should have these other belts and things repaired." Once I declined the dealership, I was told " Well, you know, if that timing belt goes, it could really trash your engine", which is totally true, but my car only has 45000 miles on it, so they were using the "let's scare the lady routine".
Green Mountain Auto fixed my car for less than $100.00, and explained to me about when I really needed those belts and such changed. The honesty and integrity of the brothers that own this shop boggles the mind. So, guys & ladies-especially you ladies, if you need an honest mechanic that will not rip you off, go see these guys. They will be straight up with what needs to be done to your vehicle and the prices are extremely fair. If I could give them 10 stars I would!
Note: the posting made me put in an hourly rate and I am not 100% sure that $45.00 is correct.by katatch on May 25, 2012

Repair/Service: New Tires (4 - mounted/balanced), Ty Rod's (another sway bar piece that I forget the name of), Alignment, Oil Change, Power Steering flush/fill a full inspection and road test of my car
Hourly Rate: $75
Total Cost: $1000
In addition to the work they did – I originally thought I needed to get breaks and shocks/struts done all the way around (this was based off the recommendation of my dealership and another mechanic) so I brought my 2006 Dodge Magnum to Green Mountain Auto Service for a third and final opinion. Long story short they are GREAT - honest, knowledgeable, fair, and quality mechanics. After their full inspection they took time to show me and discuss with me what needed to be done and what didn’t (they physically showed me where my problem areas were and weren’t); their attention to detail, honesty and customer service saved me well over $1000. WAY TO GO Green Mountain Auto Service – I will bring my vehicles and encourage all my family, friends, and co-workers to bring their car to your shop. Thanks again! JP
