I hired Big Horn Transmission to remanufacture the transmission on my 2003 Ford Explorer. The vehicle had no leaks before this service was performed. The job was initially completed on December 10, 2010. Immediately after my vehicle was returned, it was leaking transmission fluid profusely. I contacted Larry Thacker with Big Horn who asked me to bring it back in, which I did. They had the vehicle for approximately 2 days and had not contacted me. When I called, Mr. Thacker told me that they had "probably over-filled" the transmission and some fluid was just "venting off." He assured me that there was no more leak. I picked up the vehicle and continued to drive it. Within a week , I again found fluid on my driveway and on my garage floor. I again called Mr. Thacker and told him that it was leaking. He told me to bring it in after the Christmas break. By the time they had reopened after Christmas, the transmission was slipping and shifing hard. Fluid was all over my garage and driveway. I brought the vehicle in again and they had it for 4 days. I took it home and immediately saw that it was still leaking. The following Monday I took my vehicle in to Austin Automotive here in Canon City to look at the situation. They found that the transmission needed a new pump and a new torque converter. In order to replace these items, the transmission had to be removed and resealed. My bill came to $977.42. According to the mechanics at Austin Automotive, these are both items that should have been replaced when doing the original re-build. I contacted Larry Thacker at Big Horn on a Friday and he said that they would "take care of it". A week later, when he had not contacted me, I went in to his establishment and was immediately met with anger. He told that he refused to reimburse me for the supposed work. At one point his assistant took a fighting stance, clinching his fists and raising his voice. When I explained to them that I would be contacting the BBB, his assistant called me a "son of a bi**h" and made demeaning and threatening remarks. They belittled me and members of my family as I left the shop. I had to take them to small claims court which cost me additional time and money.
