2009 Kia Optima LX 6Cyl2.7L - Brakes
What can be wrong with my car? Took it to shop & mechanic couldn't find nothing wrong was told to bring it to dealer
Mileage is under 35K. This has been going on for 2 weeks now after car is warm & I try to use the brake pedal it feels as if sometimes it won't grasp the brakes, I feel a sudden jerk of the engine & car keeps gong so I have to floor the pedal for it to work. No warning lights come on. According to local mechanic shop, they drove 3 different times & could not re-create problem. The only wrong thing they found was my tires were too worn & I did go buy new tires. As I left the tire shop, I had to stop and the problem was still there! However, it doesn't happen all the time and now I'm afraid to drive my car because the problem seems to happen more often. Could it be the rotors? Please help!

I doubt its the rotors because if that was the case, you should feel vibration in the steering wheel. Could it be after only 3 years, air has gone to your brake system which prevents you from braking?

You know what, heres the deal, obviously i cannot help you find the problem, i can just give you my 2 cents worth HOWEVER, i can assist you with the procedure.

SO, go to your stealership and get a second opinion, then post it here.

How long is your warranty anyway?

Thank you for your answer, it is appreciated! The vibration is the entire car, not the steering wheel. I am putting off going to them b/c not only I'd be w/out wheels, but out of $ and what if they can't find anything wrong?

I'm to the point where I don't think the warranty is good anymore. So I will bring it to the shop sometime soon.

    Hi again Spoon Sports,

Taking my car to the stealership was a waste of my time. They kept it since Saturday and by Tuesday I got a call that they had replaced the brake lamp switch due to a malfunction. But they were never able to reproduce my problem! My car is still under warranty and fortunately didn't have to pay anything, but no sooner did I pull from the parking lot, when I felt the same thing, the brakes don't work but according to them my car is SAFE to drive like that.

Hold on, when you said the brakes didnt work, what was the pedal feel? and did you NOT STOP? Wow its amazing that someone like the dealership is not able to fix this, i mean im online, i can only do so much.

The pedal feels normal as I'm using it, it is what happens next that I have a problem: instead of slowing down, the entire car goes thru a single forward motion like a jump and instead of slowing down it continues traveling but b/c don't let go of the pedal then it slows down eventually to a stop. It doesn't happen all the time, though.

    Hello,

I have a 2010 Forte. 31,440 miles. Since 2/12/12, I've been having a problemw With my car. I'll park it the normal way I always park it. Then sporadically I am unable to restart my car. I'll get the initial start up sound but the engine won't start and radio and lights won't turn on. The first 4 times this has happened, I was able to turn my car on by trying to turn it on for about 5-10 minutes which only sounds like it's going to worsen the car in the near future. I thought that was RIDICULOUS! I was told my 3 mechanics including the one contracted through KIA that my battery was fine. So what was the problem?

On 3/9/12, I had brought my car to the KIA service in the Bronx, NY and was told they could not find the problem I was complaining about. They had my car for 6 hrs and said they did all the necessary testing and found nothing wrong with my car and asked me to pick it up. I did just that. The following day, I was unable to start my car as I just finished shopping with my family and had shopping bags ready to go home parked on a busy street. Therefore I was stranded, had to call roadside assistance who then towed my car back to KIA service in the bronx who was closed t the time so I had to wait until Monday for them to diagnose it. They had then seen the problem I was seeing and was unable to restart my car. The next day, they were able to restart it, did testing and still COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHY MY CAR SPORADICALLY DOESN'T START and how they can fix the problem. They had my car for 4 days. Still no resolution or even real problem they could find. They reached out to the Kia Hotline for an expert which advised them the computer wasn't picking up a problem and that I would have to pick my car back up and if the problem occurs again, have it towed because they can't do anything further unless it's a consistent problem. It's happened 7 times. Not including out of state, 4 hours from my home! I've been explaining this to them for a month now. What the heck kind of customer service is this? So Kia is basically telling me, I'd have to get stranded and be heavily inconvenienced in order for them to find out what the heck is wrong with my car?!! How freakin' rude???!!!!!!!!! I'm so fed up with them it's a shame! The service thinks it’s a problem with my starter. But if the KIA computer doesn't detect this problem there's nothing that the contracted service tech can do.

I have to hope my car will start correctly in a few days so I can drive it to my dealer which is out of state. They want their service people to take a look at it. I just want out of my lease. I am paying for a lease and haven't comfortably used my car in 5 weeks. I'm afraid to travel anywhere and park. This is nonsense.
