2006 Scion tC Base 4Cyl2.4L - Engine

What's wrong with my car?

Over-heating problems.
Screeching at start up.
Loss of acceleration and more play with the pedals.
Eventually lead to a break down with white smoke and a loss of engine oil.
The oil drip pan light was lit.

  Smoke from the exhaust and loss of engine oil means that the piston rings needs to be replaced.

  In other words it's burning the oil.This can cause other symptoms.

  Several possibilities; faulty / worn cylinder head gasket, leaking radiator hoses, leaking radiator - to cause the loss of fluid and the overheating condition.
  Before spending any money for repairs, have these two (2) tests performed to determine the engine sealing and pumping ability; compression test and cylinder leakdown test. If the piston rings are worn, then you may have low compression readings in all four cylinders - for example. There may be the condition of the engine cylinder head gasket is leaking or ruptured - there may not be anything wrong with the piston rings at all - but you must determine the engine sealing integrity with these two tests.
