1984 Ford F-150 XL 8Cyl5.0L - Engine

Truck just stalling and sometimes won't start.Had a mechanic do work on engine,carb val, ect. I change a dirty fuel filt

no warnings just stalls.

  My son is dropping the fuel tank now, and was sent the wrong sending unit for gas , do you have any other idea's what could be wrong?
