  Your clutch disc and/or pressure plate may be failing. One way to know if your clutch and/or pressure plate is failing is when your engine is off and you can engage into gear but when your engine is on you can’t engage the transmission into any gear.
  
  Inspect also the condition of your shifter linkages.
