check engine light comes on transmission does not shift forward or reverse. light goes out tranny works fine

  If me and I assume check engine light comes on for a reason, get codes pulled at your local auto parts store and find out what is going on. The ECU (brain) will have stored codes when a fault occured. Could be simple could be what HCA has said. Your there i'm here. Good luck.

  When does the check engine light go out? Hard codes don't clear themselves. You could have a electrical issue and/or both. Have vehicle scanned, it most likely will require diagnostic time if light comes on/off intermittenly.
