  there are some DIY on your model for sunroof problem, mine is X5 and opens but only closes on one side. I am taking it somewhere to be fixed, NOT BMW, they want to replace the whole thing, $4600. There are control rails that you can order and for yours I think it usually is the clips that break off or wear out. Apparently you should also grease them twice a year, who knew? I found these parts on Pelican Parts.com. My rails are $72 each.
