2003 Ford Mustang GT 8Cyl4.6L - Engine

Could the starter or a faulty fuel pump cause this? Not sure what it could be

On cold start up car cranks multiple times and most recently caused a knock and a ping sound when I stopped cranking

  my guess is check fuel pressure as I think the check valve in pump is bad draining fuel pressure off. next time cycle key multiple times but don't start then try to start.. is engine easier to crank now? if yes, fuel pump
