What causes a squeak, squeak comming from the front of the engine. Could it be a lose bearing of some kind?

  Yes, could be a pulley or a tensioner bearing. It can also be a loose belt. Of course, there are lots of rotating parts inside an engine and based on the year of your vehicle i wouldnt be surprised if its something more than that.
