1990 Cadillac Eldorado Base 8Cyl4.5L - Transmissions & Drivetrains
Possible Shifter Solenoid replacement in transaxle, or need to replace tranny?
Used 1990 Eldorado picked up cheap with a transaxle that slightly moves in all forward gears, but hits hard in reverse and doesn't slip at all. Fluid is full, vacuum lines are all good. (Just replaced several).Vacuum Modulator tested good and has vacuum to it. Slips in all forward gears. Was told that it happened suddenly and not gradually. The fluid and filter was replaced after the problem, but didnt help. What can i do to determine if i need to R&R this transmission for certain, as it is going to be quite a job. My experience tells me that its possibly the shifter solenoid not working correctly, but i havent any experience with a Cadillac Transaxle,(transmission). It has a TH4T60 in it with a 4.5 liter V-8 transverse mounted. Any advice will be greatly appreciated, and i do know that it should be pulled out and gone through correctly, but i dont have much money to work with, and am looking for the most inexpensive way to repair the car. Thank you in advance,, Bill

Update...I pulled out the 1-2 Servo from the back of the transaxle and noticed the springs were not assembled correctly. I put them in the correct configuration, and the forward gears returned, for 1 week, I stopped at a stop light, and attempted to take off, and right back to square 1. I popped the 1-2 servo out again, but all was in place correctly, reassembled it and still have no forward gears at all. Reverse hits great. Still looking for help. thank you, Bill
