what causes the shift lever button not to go in for me to shift

    This is probably a problem with your brake switch. I would start by checking to see if any wires are disconnected or loose along the brake pedal itself. This is going to take a little contortion, as the switch is located at the very top of the pedal lever, right underneath the dashboard.
