I got a four stud 96 golf is there any such thing as an adaptor to change it to a 5 stud caz i would like to put rs6 ondec93 - 1996 Volkswagen Golf - Steering & Suspension - 5/5/2011any such thing as an adaptor for a four stud car to make it hold five stud alloys.-
5/5/2011 DrkShdw983You probably won't find an apaptor to do that. If you do I wouldn't buy it because it wouldn't be too safe. You'll need to look into 5-stud axles that are compatible with your vehicle. I know you can swap a lot of the axles for hondas.. the same is probably true for VWs

Rear pasenger side tire has even where on the inside.1woodmonger - 1985 Volkswagen Golf - Steering & Suspension - 3/17/2011My friend Sir Gerfunkenswagnal has a 1985 VW Golf/GTI, he is having trouble with the passenger rear tire wearing (evenly) on the inside. I realize this type of car has Twist -beam rear suspension. What could be causing this and can you give me a web address to ...-
3/17/2011 Team AssociatedInner tire wear is caused by negative camber. (Wheels facing outward) unless you vehcile has camber kits you will not be able to adjust it. Unless of course there are other reasons wht its tilting.
3/17/2011 1woodmongerThank you for your response, it was a the good deed of the day..

The left rear wheel makes a low growl type noise while moving.reneekid - 1999 Volkswagen Beetle - Steering & Suspension - 2/28/2011the sound remains at the same volume and pitch regardless of speed. the bearing ,rotor and pads are fine. could this be the axle, or would the sound change as the vehicle speed changes-
2/28/2011 taketheroofIf your car is equiped with the inner tire pressure gauge. This is the gauge that pops up on your dash and tell you that one of your tires are low. I have seen these break off inside the wheel (tire) and make the noise you are talking about.

I get a severe bang in rear when I go over bumpsRobert Delicio - 2000 Volkswagen Beetle - Steering & Suspension - 2/27/2011-
2/27/2011 01NBtrickedThis is normal, as the rear end has no weight and causes undue wear and loud noises from the rear springs

deep knocking noise r.rear when going over a mild or strong bump sounds like if your trunk is opengoose - 2001 Volkswagen Beetle - Steering & Suspension - 2/27/2011-
2/27/2011 01NBtrickedThe rear suspension in the 2.0L is setup differently than the other cars. When you hit a decent bump, the rear end of the car, having practically no weight in it, bounces up and down quickly, making the sound that the trunk is open. Also, check to make sure your trunk is sealed, had mine replaced twice because it wasn't closing all the way.

When my steering wheel is straight up and down, my car moves to the left, what's wrong with it?sarah123 - 2001 Volkswagen Beetle - Steering & Suspension - 2/27/2011I got a flat tire the other day from hitting a curb, and ever since that, my car will not drive straight.-
6/10/2010 HouseCallAutoYou bent something in the steering linkage from the impact with the curb (it happens alot) and you will now have very poor handling and you will wear out tires very rapidly. Get the steering looked at asap. -
2/27/2011 01NBtrickedI would have to say that you messed up your alignment when you nailed the curb, this can be fixed at most repair garages. Check the ball and camber of the tire wheel you hit to the curb, it may be off and may be causing pre-mature wear due to improper ball and camber position.

When i go over a bump i hear a thumping sound coming from the engine compartment its seems to be coming from the strutbroc - 2000 Volkswagen Jetta - Steering & Suspension - 2/21/2011-
2/21/2011 HPI VorzaThe only way to find out is to jack your car up, shakes the components for looseness (Control Arms, Tie Rod Ends, Shocks etc.) For all you know it can just be worn out bushings. I mean we can never tell until we got the car jacked up.
"seems to be coming from the strut" - well id check the strut for looseness, i will also measure the play of the car when i push it down from the fender. In other words, we need to simulate the event.

What causes a bubble to occur in a tire?Carol J. Williams - 2002 Volkswagen Golf - Steering & Suspension - 2/8/2011-
2/8/2011 BillGenerally a broken or weakness in a tires radial ply. Either a manufacturers defect or a road hazard damaged tire. Most bubbles occur in sidewalls where tire is the weakest. Hope this helps. -
2/8/2011 J and K AUTOMOTIVE TOWING AND REPAIRIf the sidewall separation/bubble appears after six months of on-vehicle service, prolonged driving on overloaded/under-inflated tires or a road hazard are the most likely causes. However it may take weeks or months after an impact for a separation/bubble to appear as the damaged or bruised area continues to weaken. Unfortunately the time differential between the impact that caused the initial damage and the delayed appearance of visible evidence often means that the driver has forgotten about the impact that damaged the tire in the first place.

Oil pressure light goes out when key is on motor not running why?gino - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta - Steering & Suspension - 1/14/2011-
12/22/2010 Nissan Technical AdvisorFor me it's normal because oil pressure will appear only when the engine is running. Oil pump will only work when the engine is running as well as the oil pressure sensor.
12/22/2010 ginoso the light should be on not out
12/22/2010 Nissan Technical AdvisorThe light should be out not on while the engine is running because if it is on you have problem with your oil pressure and must be checked.
12/23/2010 ginoengine is NOT Running key is on
12/26/2010 Nissan Technical AdvisorCheck battery condition if has a good charge to crank the engine. The engine should be cranking and if not inspect battery cables if loose and if cables are fitted good perform a bench test for starting motor.

1/14/2011 md helpJust adding a note Gino; I read your question to say that your key is in the on position only, not started or running? If that is the case power is available to your dash and sensors as well as your accesories, radio etc... I myself have owned vehicals where after the sensors activate with the key in the on position the oil sensor light went off after a couple seconds. While most sensors remained lit until car started or key turned off. I've also driven vehicles where the oil symbol/lite remained on with other sensors with the key in the same stated on only position. These vehicles never had any oiling issues so I suspect that this must vary between different makes and models???

Why does the car make noise from the front wheelfunsho - 2008 Volkswagen Touareg - Steering & Suspension - 12/14/2010the car is making noise when driving from the front suspension starting 20km/h . the front bearings are good we change front axle the driving shaft are good but the ESP indicator is on and when put diagnostic it read esp sensor defective and the car is not air ...-
12/14/2010 Nissan Technical AdvisorWhat noise it depicts? Do a simple bounce test to tell if the shocks or struts are weak. A bounce test is not a very scientific test because it requires a certain amount of judgment. Worn shock absorbers and struts that allow more than one or two gyrations after rocking the bumper up and down and letting go have reached the end of the road and should be replaced.
