10/7/2012 GomushinI'm experiencing the exact same problem with my 2002 VW Passat 1.8t wagon. I've found the broken part, but I just don't know what it's called. It is located right next to the driver front tire. the main part is kinda boxy and bends, but there is a hole in it where another part should be connecting to it. Hopefully fixing it later this week.

9/3/2012 LionelIts a timing chain no need to replace .the only thing is that the chain guides do wear out some time.then the chain should b replace.The chain is between the tranny and the motor . u can get a lot of miles on the chain good luck.

8/26/2012 rickThe fans should only stay on for a bit if need be to cool the motor after it's been running . There is a relay that controls this and it sounds like it's going bad . Take your car to a local parts store (auto zone , napa ) and they can first check your charging system to make sure it's ok . They do it ffor free . They can also show you where the relay is and get you one . My Jeep did that and would kill the battery in no time . Relay was hard to get to . under battery box behind the bumper .
