How do i remove a speedometer to change a bulb

Better call VW parts dept first to see if the bulbs are serviceable. Sometimes they are part of the cluster.

Not familiar with the Jetta, but on the Golf the flasher is part of the red emergency push switch on the dash. It's about $30 for a new one, but easy to replace - it pops out. You may be able to get another from a scrap yard.

    Trouble with door locks
My locks were opening with the drivers side one turn and drivers and passengers side with two turns. That no longer happens. Why?

there is an electronic device in the door that functions the door locks that either died or something broke that gives it the signal in the door lock.

My daytime running lights work intermittently, but all lights work fine when manually turned on. What's
My daytime running lights work intermittently,(mostly not) but all lights work just fine when manually turned on. What's wrong? Are the running lights connected to the parking brake switch? And if so where is the switch? Could this be the source of the problem? ...

    • Bobby
      4/29/2010 Bobby
i don't think they are connected to the parking brake. the daytime lamps are typically on ther own circuit, you will need a wiring diagram but it could be anything from the switch, relay or a wiring problem.

Possible electrical problem or could this be due to battery replacement several weeks ago , windows ?
THe controls for the windows on drivers side door are not working but the windows actually will go up/down using other door controls ie passenger door

I am assuming that you are trying to move the passenger side window with the controls on the drivers side , and the passenger side window only works with the switch on the passenger door. if so the problem is likely the switch on the driver's door. however the wires may just as likely be the problem. - they tend to crack and get corroded at the point where you can see them travel from the door to the body - should be under a rubber boot - can be seen when the door is open. - check the wires on the drivers door -

Power Window issue on a convertible
The passenger side window doesn't go down the 1/4" or so when you go to open the door. Is this a major fix?

If you go to a dealership there is some decent coin involved. I think the problem is in the switch . Its a known problem so I would call around and get a couple of quotes

      1. Check for potential water damage to the Comfort Control Module (CCM).
The CCM is located beneath the driver's seat carpet in a plastic electronics box. The main wiring harness for the CCM passes out of this box and travels beneath the carpet towards the firewall and relay center under the left side of the dash. Water can seep through the carpet (especially in snowy conditions) and immerse the CCM and wiring harness. This will either short the CCM, rendering it inoperative or corrode the wiring harness, interrupting power, ground or communication with the CCM system. Carefully inspect the wiring, connections and CCM for water damage.

      2. Once the CCM is replaced the module must be coded to the vehicle using a full function factory compatible scan tool.
      Potential Causes:
      Damaged Comfort Control Module (CCM)
Defective Comfort Control Wiring — Water damage.

Why is the airbag light on after 3 weeks of owning my car ?
when i first got the car the airbag light was not on at all, now it stays on. why does it do this when i havent been in any form of an accident? and if its electrical how much can i expect to pay for this?

    • Bobby
      4/8/2010 Bobby
which airbag light is on? a volvo typically has seat weight sensors, for the passenger side, they will measure the weight of someone in the passenger seat so that if it is a child or someone to light to handle the impact of the airbag it shuts off. There should be a key switch that can disable the passenger side air bag. try sitting in the passenger seat and see if that turns the light off, or if you have been putting a bag or books or soemthing in the passenger seat that can through it off. The owners manual would have some more info on this.

If none of that solves it, the car was used, find out if it was ever in an accident by checking the carfax. Also I would call the place you bought it from and ask them if the light was on and if they reset it, it may have been a problem they new about and didn't tell you. Since you have only owned it for 3 weeks next step would be if you bought it from a reputable place is to bring it in to see what needs to be repaired and then ask them what they want to do about it. Any used car place you have 30 days, find out asap because airbag repair can be very expensive.

    VW PAssat sunroof issues
how do you trouble shoot the v 2003 VW PAssat sunroof motor / switch assembly to determine which component is bad?

Yikes! - Motor is in roof and have to drop the sunroof ( clips for the plastic then screws on mine ) and then pull out the entire sunroof. It's not a pretty job for sure. I would not go there first. Pull the sunroof switch and check for power. Hopefully just a bad switch or power not getting to it. You don't want to mess with the liner if you don't have too. If you can get to the switch you can verify power and if the motor is the issue. Best of luck - I hope not the motor.
