bad blower or switch check relays

You turn off the alarm on a 1997 Jetta by unlocking any of the 2 front doors. The alarm is temporary disabled when opening the trunk. If you set off the alarm because you replace the battery then you have to lock and unlock the doors to turn it off. First, lock all doors, including the trunk. Then reconnect the battery cables. Finally, unlock the doors. Instead of unlocking one of the front doors, you can also disable the alarm. This can be done by, after locking your car - which automatically arms the alarm, wait a few seconds and then turn the key the other direction for about half a second. This disables the alarm, yet leaves the door locked.

Try the relay first, as if it goes the wrong way you get wipers all the time.
I would then suspect the wiper stalks.....Motors don't turn on by themselves.

Go to Autozone, they replace those lights for free

all i can suggest is make sure you drain for your A/C is free of debris, then ask around at some auto parts stores for products that are used to eliminate A/C odours. Ford has a special chemical used in a spray bottle in which you need to remove part of the plenum to spray this chemical on the evaporator. Some other products ive used is an aresol can you set in the vehicle and open the can setting your A/C on max and letting it circulate for 15 minutes with all windows shut and all that it seemed to do the trick

Is it harmful to have this musty air blowing through my car vents? Hmmm...im still alive so guess its ok :) had the same problem...mine smelled like vinegar for 5 minutes

Probably your heater core is leaking coolant and needs to be replaced. It doesn't smell exactly like wet dog but close.
I once asked a VW service manager if he ever did this job and he answered, "unfortunately yes". It can be done and a lot of stuff has to be removed to get to this small radiator. Then it all has to be reassembled.

Try cleaning up the speedometer sensor (VSS) on the transmission. This may be done by pulling the unit from the transmission housing, then cleaning and lubricating the moving parts.

Thats the first thing i do before thinking that its a cluster issue.

Sounds like a loose connection, IF not at the speaker. Either at the harness to the radio or in the internals. other than that i couldnt think of anything else being your problem, i even doubt your driver side speaker is busted.

Check for broken wires in the harness between the driver's door and the A-pillar(where the door hinges are attached).

I believe that you have a faulty ignition switch which is very common on a Jetta..

With no speeds working at all it is most likely to be a bad Blower Motor Switch .
