Why does my car exhaust smokes when I start it? Why does my car exhaust smoke when i turn the engine on?
It only happens when I start the car. IT does not occur all the time. There is no warning lights on.

Water does not come out on front windshield wipers.
How do I know that it is the windshield wipers motor or the pump unless the pump is part of the windshield wipers motor assembly?

What kind of battery do i need to buy?
can you tell me how big such as the size of battery. And how much to buy a battery? I lived in West Seattle. Does it require a special battery? Thank you

Check the tag / label on the existing battery as the first step. If no tag or label, or no battery - check the vehicle owners manual.

The '99 Solara requires a Group 35 type battery, with a recommended minimum of 550 CCA (cold cranking amps) - this is not a special battery - they are readily available from local auto parts sources. Should cost around $89.00 to $100.00 or so for the new battery - with free installation at most stores.

Refer to the owners manual for the recommended filter change interval and for the filter change steps. The cabin air filter is located behind the glove compartment in your vehicle.

Check the various on-line vendors; www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.RockAuto.com, www.partsgeek.com, to list only a few. For example, they (RockAuto) list the cabin air filter (particulate) from around $3.00 for your vehicle.

Car when being driven creaks like I am laying on a bed with an old box spring
I have 150,000 miles on the car & drive 12 miles daily - I have taken good care of this car - the car runs great and stops great & it doesn't sound like a bad muffler - is the car OK to drive? Is it just old?

Need more information - where is the sound coming from - the interior or exterior? Is the sound noticed during driving at certain speeds, certain road conditions?

Too many possibilities to list from the limited detail provided. Please post a reply with added description of when the sound occurs - for further assistance.

Hi Jimm - thanks for responding - it is definitley outside and it seems to be from the rear of the car - it use to just make the sound when I turned right but now it is just always making the sound as I drive - when I park and lean on the trunk of the car and bounce it up and down - it makes the same sound

OK - next step is to check the exact source of the noise. Need a helper to bounce the rear of the vehicle up and down on the trunk as you have stated - while parked - at the same time someone is underneath to listen and perform an inspection.

Several possibilities; worn / squeaking suspension bushing, squeaking / worn strut mount bushing (upper or lower position). Try a silicone aerosol spray to the offending bushings to temporarily lubricate and quiet - prior to the replacement work.

at that age have your suspension parts professionally checked , if all is ok then I suspect bushings drying out. recommend oil spray rust proofing it sometimes helps to lubricate things, have the rear sway bar bushings checked , they are problematical
