Transmission fluid coming out at fill tube.Jim - 2002 Subaru Forester - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 1/29/2012Transmission fluid is coming out at the fill tube and dip stick is be pushed out. Would a plugged transmission filter cause pressure build up and this problem or what else could I suspect? The transmission is shifting normally. I notice no changes. -

1/22/2012 Tonyif car is automatic, it is most likely the shift cable going from the shift gear to the transmission, try to spray some BP blaster on it or get it replaced before it brakes.

1/20/2012 yboy82You mean your axle bearing? You have to place the brake drum on 2 block of wood. And by using a brass drift and hammer, drive the outer race of the inner bearing from the drum. The seal will come out at the same time.
1/20/2012 johnThanks. This is an all wheel drive vehicle and the bearings are in a bearing well that the shaft goes thru. The drum comes off seperately. I appreciate the help though -
1/20/2012 yboy82You should remove the rear axle and bearing housing as an assembly. Press the halfshaft from the housing. And then position the spacer inside the housing in a radial direction to gain access to the outer bearing. Place a brass drift to the outer bearing inner race. Then drive out the bearing, together with the oil by lightly tapping with a hammer.
Do not use the old bearing, if you installed the old bearing it may develop an abnormal noise.

11/25/2011 CVOA code P0325 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
The knock sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
There is a wiring short/fault in the knock sensor circuit
Possible Solutions
Check the resistance of the knock sensor (compare it to factory specs)
Check for broken/frayed wires leading to the sensor
Replace the knock sensor.

...before replacing I sprayed electrical cleaner on the connection and the Trans went
forward the way it was supposed to. It was short lived success and I just bought a new
one and replaced it assuming it needs to be replaced.
12/19/2011 dphinThere's a new problem. When I installed the Knock Sensor I had removed the big air filter assy.
to get at the sensor better. Prior to replacing the air filter assy with hoses disconnected I tried to start engine, it started but kept choking out unless I kept throttling
it with gas pedal. It still starts up and I have been
able to keep it at idle if I keep foot on gas pedal
as a throttle. I put it all back together and even replaced
the fuel filter but no luck. I must have done something
maybe to another sensor? Vacumn line?
What ideas do you have on this?
12/20/2011 CVOErase the codes and wait for a new codes to show up, re-scan again. Did you get a knock sensor from a Dealer ?
Note: Try to avoid after market knock sensor.( in my opinion ).
12/23/2011 dphinHello, I rented/loaner a scanner from AutoZone, not sure the thing even works but I got no codes
and scanner says all is well. Still have the aftermarket knock sensor installed, it came from Drive Wire
parts/online. It cost $28.00 includes shipping ( sensor $18.19) (" Replacement sensor") I can still start
engine and keep it going for a short time. When it first starts there's some knocking that goes away as rpm
increases. There are higher priced sensors avail. Bosch $83 and Paraut of Japan $95

When put into drive the transmission delays in connecting attempts when the rpmdphin - 1999 Subaru Forester - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 11/24/2011Trans filter and fluid were changed and this did not fix the problem. Once engaged it drives fine and this does not happen in reverse. When stopped at a stop light same problem happens. The RPM is between 1000 and 1500 when it decides to connect.-
11/24/2011 headachethe problem is in your transmission!could be your cluch is goin,take it to the shop,theres not much else a home mechanic can do,transmissions are somthing you leave to the experts,you'v done all you can do.
11/24/2011 dphinI guess I was not clearly stating the problem. The Trans. is an Automatic Trans. I am now
looking at other options since I was able to borrow an Actron
AutoScanner CP9575.

Learning how to check transmission fluid is very simple and can keep your transmission fluid levels from reaching dangerously low levels. There are only a few steps in checking your transmission fluid level. First you need to make sure that your vehicle is parked on a level surface. When checking your transmission fluid level, some vehicles must be running. Check your owner's manual to verify whether or not the vehicle should be running or not during transmission fluid check. With the engine warm, locate the transmission fluid dipstick. Most, if not all, are located at the back of the vehicle's engine. Remove the dipstick and clean it off with a clean rag. Make sure the transmission dipstick is absolutely clean when inserting it back into the transmission. Foreign objects in the fluid, even miniscule ones, can severely shorten the life of your transmission. Now, fully replace the dipstick back into the dipstick tube and then pull it out again. There may be two readings, hot (warm) and cold. You will be reading the hot (warm) level reading. Fluid level should indicate Full on the dipstick. If is low, add the correct transmission fluid until you see the level indicate Full. You add transmission fluid through the transmission dipstick tube. It is best to buy a long suitable funnel made for just this purpose. It is very important not to add too much transmission fluid when filling. Once your dipstick is indicating a Full transmission fluid level, you can replace the dipstick.
