    SQUEAKY NOISE FROM THE MUFFLER
My car does a squeaky noise from either the muffler or somewhere above it when I release the gas pedal, and rpm goes down (on idle). Or when I'm going slow on first or second gear (gas pedal released).

Replaced struts x 4. Alignment OK. turning in either directio the vehicle pulls in that direction afterwards.
Checked front end components but may have overlooked inner tie rod ends. But still, alignment checks out. Also, at high speed (interstate) the vehicle drives normal.

I need to replace the boots on my rack & pinion, Is there a split boot available so I can do it myself, if so where do I
get them? I have searched on-line and not found a split type boot.

At one time years ago there was a boot made for things like that . It had a split in it so it could be placed over the shaft then glued together . They weren't worth crap . And as far as I know no one has tried to make such a POS like that for years since they don't work . So . Sorry you'll have to repair them the right way . No short cuts for boots .

High performance struts for Impreza Outback?
I have a 2004 Sbaru Impreza Outback. I'm looking to replace the front struts and will be driving in rough conditions. Are there better options than the twin tube KYB or Monroe struts available?

KYB Europe part # 324031, 324032, 324033, 324030 - for the four strut assemblies- listed as increased performance models. Cost varies - typically on-line around $142.00 each.

Those seem to be a stiffer suspension for sports driving. Are those suited for off-road conditions?

Best to contact the various strut manufacturers directly for these type of application questions.

U.S. model equivalent of 2004 Impreza 15I for parts
I am trying to purchase new front struts for my 2004 Impreza 15I hatchback, 4WD 1500cc. This is a Japanese model and I'm trying to figure which struts from the U.S. would fit this model? I think it may be the TS but can someone confirm?

      The TS model uses these aftermarket struts, for the front and rear;

Monroe pn 72415 (rear left), pn 72414 (rear right), pn 72421 (front right), pn 72422 (front left). There are also the KYB strut part listings, as well as strut parts listings for brands such as Sachs and Boge for your vehicle.

Each of these strut assemblies cost around $65.00 each from these auto parts sources; www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.discountautoparts.com, www.rockauto.com - to list only a few.

Would the TS parts fit the 15I, since it's an Asian model of the Impreza wagon?

Check the application for the TS parts with the individual auto parts sources listed - before the purchase.

Check the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.autopartswarehouse.com, wwwpartsgeek.com, www.autoanything.com and www.rockauto.com - to list only a few sources. For example, they (Rock Auto) list the rear struts from around $62.00 each for your vehicle.
Stick with the known and proven name brands; Monroe, Boge, KYB, Sachs - among others - as these will be OEM quality or better for the application.

My car has about 130,000 miles. It just recently started to feel like I'm riding on a bumpy road when I'm going 30 mph and below. I feel it most around 20 mph. It feels as if a tire may be wobbly, but we checked and they aren't. We checked the lug nuts and made ...

Cv joints going bad would not be uncommon. Check and see if either of the CV boots is torn open and throwing grease around.

    Steering wheel angle/alignment problem?
Hi folks, for the last year or so, I notice the steering wheel skews to the left: when I hold the steering wheel straight, the car pulls to the right, even on flat road. I understand if one drives on the right lane, the steering wheel usually skews a bit to the left ...

      Hello
That is a strange one, I guess that I would check to make sure that the steering rack is securely tight in its mounts. All suspension components are tight?

Hi Joe, thanks for the reply. Yes, I took the car back after a month and the mechanic found nothing wrong with the steering rack. I just had the shocks & struts replaced too 6 months before that, so suspension components are up-to-date. Do you think it has something to do with the front axle?

      Hello
Did you re check the belt tension? Sometimes a new belt will stretch and will make it loose, and then it may squeal. Most times spraying anything on a belt may make matters worse. hope this helps.
