The ac has no pressure on one side, seem to have pressure on the other and it won't work . is it plugged up or whatjt - 2002 Subaru Impreza - Engine - 7/1/2012-
7/1/2012 HouseCallAutoNo, that description will not work. Hook up a professional gauge set and tell me the pressure readings and tell me if the compressor is turning on. If it is not turning on, hook up a professional scanner and confirm that you have an AC signal out of the controls on the dash. Try adding refrigerant and see if the system comes alive.

If I leave the car running for ten minutes or the ride on the highway. It smokes, smells like rubber, is it my belts??dweezy - 2009 Subaru Legacy - Engine - 6/30/2012Like above-
6/30/2012 JimmNeed more information - where is the smoke coming from? Is the smoke from under the hood? Try and check the source of the smoke - raise the hood and observe where the smell and smoke may be coming from.
It's possible one of the belt-driven accessories has a frozen bearing or faulty ouput shaft - or it may be related to a drive belt - but there is no way to tell given the limited information provided.

I have a 2001 Subaru Outback Sedan 4Cyl. 190,000 miles and love the car. About 40,000 miles ago we had head gaskets redmay - 2001 Subaru Outback - Engine - 6/27/2012-
6/27/2012 JasonWhat is the question?
6/28/2012 dmaysorry got cut off.
I have a 2001 Subaru Outback Sedan 4Cyl. 190,000 miles and love the car. About 40,000 miles ago we had head gaskets replaced because they were blown. Recently car has been overheating. So I changed thermostat (have gone through quite a few, now running OEM T-stat) problem continued. Normally runs just below half on temp gauge, would fluctuates then peg to top. We stop wait to cool add water and get it home.
So far we have replaced radiator, and cap, ran a coolant conditioner through with intention of sealing any head leaks, replaced water pump, ran compression test on coolant system and holds pressure overnight. Back pressured tested each cylinder with no air through coolant system. No water visible in oil.
Symptoms persist; I can drive at highway speeds in summer temps for up to 60-70 miles or so then it over heats, coolant back flows into reservoir.
I am at a loss any ideas???
6/28/2012 RCIt sounds like a head gasket problem (common for this year). Have you taken it back to the shop?

Code Reader cited above on JC Whitney website has 3 OBD1 cables for American cars, but don't know if any will work on a Subaru. Don't want to spend $220 on a tool I can't use.-

If you have changed the radiator, thermostat and water pump and car still over heats wht is the problemangie - 1999 Subaru Legacy - Engine - 6/11/2012If I get in traffic, or put the ax on it overheats. When I look the antifreeze goes Low in the radiator but there are no visible leaks anywhere-
6/3/2012 JimmPossible causes of overheating; incorrect coolant mixture (not at 50/50 mix of water and anti-freeze), faulty / clogged radiator, faulty water pump, faulty /clogged radiator hoses, faulty thermostat, clogged engine cooling passages, engine cooling fans not functioning.
Have an inexpensive cooling system pressure test preformed - when the engine is cold - to determine where the cooaint may be leaking. -
6/10/2012 PlanetjemCheck your oil and see if there is any antifreeze on the stick, sign of a blown head gasket or cracked head. -
6/10/2012 armywifex4I just bought an 05 and have an oil leak that I have been researching. I have read that an oil leak can cause coolant to become dirty aand the car to overheat. It's common in the years 99-05. See if your head gasket is leaking, many found that to be the problem only after fixing everything. -

Is 2005 subaru worth the money?armywifex4 - 2005 Subaru Outback - Engine - 6/10/2012Just bought one with a small head gasket leak that isn't dripping oil yet just slightly collecting. And it feels very bouncy during highway speed going over bridges and bumps, almost unsafe. How much will this cost to fix and does it outway the pros of owning a ...-
6/10/2012 JimmThere is no way of knowing whether you bought a lemon - only time will tell. The head gasket leak can be costly to repair - as can the shock absorbers / strut assembly repairs. A quick check on-line seems to list head gaskets failure as a common problem for this model.
6/10/2012 armywifex4Thanks Jimm. I did look on line about it, ofcourse after I bought it, and found it to be a problem, but many also say it's a one time problem. Luckily, i just got it yesterday so I may have a few days to take it back in if needed. I traded in my 04 Explorer due to the cost of gas and high payment. If it's worht it I don't mind making the repairs and hopefully convincing the dealership that it's unsafe to drive and making them pay for the bouncy issues.
