What would cause the shifter to move freely between 3rd and 4th gear, but be very difficult to move side to side?
In order to shift (especially into 5th gear) it takes a great deal of force. It feels like I'm stretching something further than it wants to go.

    How to correct odometer reading?
The odometer turned over 100000 miles but now reads 3276 miles. It should read 103276. How do I get the BCM to read the mileage correct?

usually the only way to correct an odometer misreading is to replace the instrument cluster unless the dealership scan tool is able to alter the reading.

I have a 2008 Saturn VUE FWD 4C XE VIN: 3GSCL33P48S503960 - I have found information that says the odometer reading is stored in the body control module on Saturn Vue for 2003 to 2009. I have also found information that says it is stored in the instrument cluster on Saturn Vue for 2008 and 2009 only. Can you get me the correct answer? Then I need to know what to do to fix the odometer reading?

Check the vehicle for fault codes to see if there are any sensors were involved to the malfunction of the engine.

1.Local auto parts stores such as Autozone ( not in California) or Advance Auto parts or Pep Boys will scan and retrieve any diagnostic trouble codes ( dtc ) stored in the powertrain control module for free of charge..

      2. has the code reader for less than $ 17.99 dollars + shipping
Autel MaxiScan MS300 CAN Diagnostic Scan Tool for OBDII Vehicles

3.Re-post the dtc's in here " answer question " for further assistance.

Note: we need the dtc's to identify the sensor, there are a dozen different ELECTRONIC sensors to operate the car.

Visit this site and see all the different sensor definitions.

Car won't start, battery replaced 2xs in past year.
Our car has had a new battery twice in the past year. The connections seem fine. It clicks but won't start. A few days before this, it wouldn't start but we left it alone for 5 minutes, then it started (it's done that a few times). Is it the alternator, solenoid, ...

Did you have the battery tested? Some of the national brand autostores will check the battery and charging system, also. I believe they will do it for free.

You may need to check the voltage circuits at the starter itself, key in the crank position. any testing at the starter, make sure the tranny is in park or neutral and the parking brake is set. With intermittent issues, you have to test when problem is ongoing.

Check for applicable trouble codes. Some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free. Might as well try to cover all the bases.

Check The cable linkage at the tranny and inside the car. Sounds like a broken cable. Might be able to shift car by hand from under hood to get it home or to a shop.

Thank you for answering. We got it home by shifting it from under the hood. The cable is not broken tho. Looks as tho the floor shifter bushing came off. It's not broken either but missing the ring to it. I only know what it is by googling it. Thank you again

What causes this example: shift car to 5th and stays in 2nd.
No work has been done yet and there are over 200,000. My husband says when he shifts to like 5th gear it stays in 2nd. He thinks it is something with the shifter, but not sure.

Why does my car not want to go into gear when cold?
when my engine is cold, first thing in the morning, or after my car sits for like 6 or more hours, when I try to put it into gear it does not want to go, I have to force it. Only happens when the car is cold.

You have not detailed what is happening enough. "I have to force it" - What is it that you have to force? The shifter? Are you saying that the shifter does not want to move from the park position? More detail please. i cannot assume anything

Two shops have said the transmission needs to be replaces. Previous owner tried to repair a leak in the transmission
I wonder if there was any recall or something Saturn did to fix this on the 2003 Vue? Is a rebuilt a decent option? What would a fair cost be for this repair? Thanks Much!

Need more information - why does the transmission need to be replaced or rebuilt? What exactly is the issue?
Next question - which transmission model is in the vehicle? Is this the 5-speed auto trans (M09) or 5-speed auto trans (M45) or Continuously variable ratio (CVT) automatic transmission (M75)? This will make a difference in the rebuilt cost.
      3/10/2014 AutoMD Member
The shop says the transmission is low on fluid again and has many leaks. It is a CVT VT25-E/M16

The rebuild kit alone is around $1000.00 - check this

Of course, this cost does not include the labor required - maybe another $800.00 to over $1000.00 - depending on the repair shop.
