Why does my car make a deep noise when I turn the steering wheel?
Every time I turn the steering wheel while parking or pulling out, the car makes a deep moaning noise. It doesn't make a difference what time of year it is, it happens all of the time. The sound is definitely coming from the steering mechanism.

Does it still steer ok ? Or is it harder than normal ? My first guess would be the power steering pump is weak and at low speeds or stopped with low rpm's it's not putting out pump pressure like it should . Start there .

5 days after buying a vehicle you have no power steering and they will not fix it? That is so wrong and should not depend on a recall or TSB. What if any warranty was stated when you bought this vehicle? 30 days no? Oe bought as is?

The recall that exists for a power steering leak on this vehicle is limited only to checking for a loose nut where the hose attaches to the power steering pump which does not involve hose replacement which is what you need apparently.

Squeaky (like a spring) sound from front when applying brakes
I had shop check brakes, said they were OK, They say it is the sway bar/engine cradle fittings etc. are worn. Will cost $2200 to repair with used parts since new are no longer available. I don't understand how these suspension parts can cause the noise only when ...

Difficult to determine the source of the noise via the internet and the description provided. The replacement parts are available as new - try these sources; www.partsgeek.com, www.rockauto.com, www.discountautoparts.com, www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.jcwhitney.com - to list only a few possibilities. For example, the sway (stabilizer) bar bushings are readily available - cost around $1.60 per set from RockAuto (yes - less than two dollars!). These items are easily and inexpensively replaced - can be done at home to save cost.

I'd recommend a second opinion / estimate from another source - and obtain a written and detailed estimate to include all needed parts to repair the issue you are having.

IF YOU PLAN TO REPLACE LOCK CYLINDER YOU CAN BREAK OUT THE TUMBLERS AND TURN WITH SCREWDRIVER. THIS WILL DESTROY THE OLD PART. PRY OFF COVER PLATE THAT HAS KEY SLOT. REMOVE TUMBLERS THE SMALL BRASS PIECES . ONCE REMOVED IGNITION SHOULD MOVE FREELY.

The power steering in your Saturn is electric and is powered by an electric motor. Most cars do not have electric power steering. Because the power steering function is dependent upon electrical power being present for the power steering, any condition that causes a loss of battery voltage to the power steering control module can turn on an error message to "service the power steering" so do not focus on the power steering for now, just deal with the no start / no crank and the error message will solve itself after the starting is solved. I believe that your Saturn either needs a jump start due to the battery being discharged for some reason or a bad battery or the negative cable from the battery that attaches to the engine is loose or a bad connection (check it), OR there is a bad ignition switch. These Saturn Ions are well known for bad ignition switches causing a no crank condition. Is there a chance this Ion has a bad battery? Is it like 4 or 5 years old maybe? If you tried to jump start this car, make sure that you hook the jumper cables correctly because on this car there is a situation that attaching the jumper cables to the incorrect places can cause the 60 amp EPS fuse (electric power steering) to burn open. So check that fuse also. It is in the underhood fuse panel, fuse # 43.

I had the same problem a few months ago. There's a service bulletin about the electric power steering and if you take the car to a dealer authorized to repair Saturns, they will do it for free if the car is under 150,000 miles. Here's a link for Bulletin No. 10187A.

Check the exhaust sytem for any loose hangers and check for a loose heat shroud - usually located around the catalytic converter - the exhaust system can sometimes give a random rattling.
Not many other suggestions to offer based on the limited details provided - with more information about the noise; when it occurs (acceleration, certain speeds, only over bumps, etc) can a proper diagnosis be offered.
