Many transmission problems can be solved and avoided by regularly changing a car’s transmission fluid or getting the transmission flushed on a regular basis as recommended by the owner’s manual.

First step - have the stored fault codes or check engine light scanned - for free - at any local auto parts store; Advance Auto, Auto Zone, NAPA. Then, post a reply as 'add answer' with the specific code for more assistance. There may be a fault code stored in the OBD memory which may not be displayed as a check engine light.

Possible Causes of Engine Hesitation or Stumble:

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this)
      Dirty air filter (change filter)
Dirty / clogged fuel filter (change filter)
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
      Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

      Dirty or worn spark plugs
      Bad plug wires
      Weak ignition coil
      Wet plug wires

Why does my car shudder in high gear at speeds >45 mph? It feels like something large is bucking or is becoming loose.
This only started to happen last night. The problem occurs once the car accelerates, smoothly via automatic transmission, to higher gears. The shuddering is pronounced/heavy at 50 mph. It started on a relatively flat road. The check engine light is not lit.

P0730 Incorrect Gear Ratio = the difference between the input speed and output speed (speed of the vehicle) is more than 10% above the gear ratio for more than 5 seconds.

You should first try to look if the solenoids are working properly. Check the transmission solenoid's wires and harness. Check the entire harness. Maybe you will have to remove the Trans oil pan to see the solenoids. There is also an access plate on the transmission which can be removed for inspection.

Here is the rebuilding diagram for the AW5042LE transmission; www.transtec.com/tech_insert/94659.pdf

You need Texaco Texamatic Dexron III trans fluid.
If you're flushing the whole transmission, you'll be needing 10.5 liters. But if you're only changing gear box fluid, then 3.3 liters...... Again, i would use common sense over technical data...O and do not use synthetic trans oil in your car...it's a no no.
