Why wont my car shift into fouth gear and slips in third, but fine i first and second.
130000 miles on odometer. Does not matter if cold or warm. Just started but got progressively worse fast. Will go into third, but with no power. Will cruise and slowly speed up and maintain speed at high rpm.

Did you already remove your shift lever cover to check if there is a foreign object that restricts your shifting lever to move? Also check the condition of the cable of your shifting lever that controls the shifting fork and if you can’t see any damage or fault outside your transmission, it is possible that due to normal wear you gears (synchromesh mechanism) inside your transmission is worn. I suggest that you take your vehicle to a service shop since a transmission problems is not usually a DIY job.

I believe you got the P0717 code?

Here is more info (Dont worry if it is for a Buick, its the same thing for this case)

Its vehicle speed sensor located in the transmission tailshaft on the right side. I have to jack the car up and go underneath near the oil filter. If you look up towards the last sparkplug on the firewall side or the power steering pump, the VSS is directly below those items.

When in park my car wont allow me to shift to park or reverse or any other gear.
rigorous shaking twisting and turning of the steering wheel wont help. i press the brake and do everything possible, it only shifts when it sees fit.

Well I`m not a mecanic or anything but thats exactley what happened 2 me with my 1997 pontiac... I currently own a 2005 pontiac but before I got this one I got the 1997 one for only $1000 I thought It was a great price cuz it was only 5 years old... But after I got home I couldn`t move the shift!.. it took lots of time N energy to move it So I got my local mecanic to come N look at it... He said it was a "child safty lock" that had 2 be removed... N $20/20 mins later my car worked like a band new car... I just traded it in for my 2005 pontiac about 4 years ago N they gave me $1700 for it... It had almost 210 thousand miles on it N it worked better than my currant car... Just wanted something newer... but now I miss my 1997 pontiac... lol

    How to change speedometer sensor
    speedometer jumps around.

The speed sensor itself is located on top of the transmission housing, and it is accessable (though a bit of a reach). Go towards the back of the engine compartment (it's best to look through from the passenger side) If you look straight down from the back end of the fuel injector assembly you'll see aconnector hooked to some wires, right on top of the transmission housing.

To remove it, first unplug the couple (the thing with the wires in it). It snaps in so you'l have to give it a squeeze to get it loose.

What is causing the growling sound heard any time my Grand Am is in motion?
The growling happens whenever the car is in motion. Sometimes it becomes exaggerated when making a sharp turn (predominantly to the left). It began happening shortly after I replaced my entire subframe. Some suggestions I've found range from driveline problems, ...
