Do I need to replace my CV Joints/Axles?
I was coming home from work on the highway doing about 60-65 mph, I slowed down and turned off to get on my street, everything seemed normal until I got to 35 mph when suddenly my car pulled to the right very hard, I pulled into a gas station to check on my front ...

Most likely - the sound is related to the CV joints / halfshaft assemblies being worn. How many miles on the vehicle / CV halfshafts?

The new / remanufactured CV axle halfshaft assemblies cost around $32.00 (left or right sides) each from these on-line auto parts sources; www.partsgeek.com, www.rockauto.com, www.discountautoparts.com, www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.jcwhitney.com - to list only a few possibilities.

Be sure to replace both the front CV halfshaft assemblies at the same time - due to mileage / age / wear considerations.

Its got 260k and some change, other than what I've replaced on the car I'm almost positive everything on it is original. My dad and I figured that it might be that but we wanted the opinion of others before we start ordering parts and whatnot. I appreciate your answer though and hopefully that's what the problem is.

Loose plate undercarriage, what is it?
I was hearing a rattling, vibration type of noise coming from the rear of the car, like something was loose in the trunk rattling around. I located the noise it appears to be a loose plate underneath the car toward the rear, it can move it around but not get it ...

Sounds like a heat shield came loose. Can't imagine any shop billing for more than one hour of labor fpor fixing it. Typical hourlt labor rate depending on geographic location will range from $60 to $110 per hour.

Don't know if my first thank-you got sent, so here it is again-
Thank-you for taking the time to answer my question!
At least I can start a conversation and pretend I know what's under the car!
      Thanks again-

Will the axle from a 98 Buick lesabre passenger side work on my 97 Pontiac Grand Prix gtp v6 3.8L supercharger
The axle hasn't came out yet from my 97 Grand Prix but it's ready to it jumps badly when gas is pushed but when drifting freely it's smooth running

The parts are readily available from these many on-line sources, www.partsgeek.com, www.rockauto.com, www.discountautoparts.com, www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.jcwhitney.com - to list only a few possibilities.
In fact, they (RockAuto) list the front axle / CV halfshaft assembly from around $42.00 (each) for your vehicle. Be sure to replace both the CV halfshafts at the same time due to mileage / age / wear considerations.

Why does my car sound like it needs to shift but the RPM's are fine?
Had the codes pulled. They said I needed a thermostat, which I haven't replaced yet. and a Transmission speed sensor which I just put on. Still sounds like it needs to shift but RPM's show it is fine. Any thoughts?

Speedometer doesn't work, RPM's have to be real high before it will shift, trac warning light is on,
changed wheel bearing last year, 98,0000

The vehicle speed sensor is probably junk. It is a sensor that is located on the transmission. Read fault codes with a code reader. probablt will find a code for the speed sensor.

Why does my car whine during idle and driving?
My car whines very loudly when it is started, during idle (and it seems to idle high-but my tachometer doesn't work) and while driving (not during acceleration, but when you let off the gas). My engine light is not on, and it drives fine just noisy and sort of annoying.

Remove the serpentine belt and start the engine and see if the noise is gone and if it is, then locate which of the components that is turned by the belt is the origin of the noise.

OK, I will have my husband check that after work this evening. He was leaning towards it being a belt issue. Thanks!

    Whirring, Hissing, Burnt Rubber
First, I want to say that I don't really have any idea if this is the right category or not. My car has suddenly developed what I can best describe as a very loud whirring sound coming from what seems to be the front passenger side when I attempt to drive it. The ...

I believe that your tire is rubbing on a broken or twisted plastic splash panel which would cause your whirring sound and give a burnt rubber smell / melted plastic smell. If it were the brakes I doubt that the noise would begin instantly as soon as you pull away when everything is cold. Ya know when ya know? This is one of those times....

What you may be smelling is the brake pads on that side due to overheating. The caliper or
brake hose is defective. The only thing to cause the rubber smell would be if something is
rubbing against the tire (not likely). To check for a caliper or hose failure is to drive the car
till the problem occurs. Then jack up the front of the car. Put car in neutral then turn each
tire. Notice if the passenger side tire is harder to turn than the driver side.

Thank you for the help! The front passenger coil spring had rusted through in a spot and was now pressing against the tire.

Check Fuse 5 (10 amp) in the fuse panel inside the car. There are 2 speed sensors. One is for the speedometer and is located just above the driver side axle shaft in the transmission bell housing (VSS) and the other is the Input shaft speed sensor (ISS). Are you sure that you replaced the VSS ? The P0722 is saying that the VSS is not functioning. If you did replace the correct VSS then maybe a wire is broken near the connector. The P0507 is unrelated to this (maybe clean the throttle body to get this code solved) The P0700 is just saying that the transmission control module requested that the check engine light be illuminated. It is not a specific fault, its pointing to the P0722.

When you give it gas it feels like engine is almost flooding out. If you are sitting on a hill in drive, soon as you take foot off brake it will start rolling..Almost like driving a manual transmission vehicle

Code readers, maybe you have heard of them. Get one from amazon.com for $20 and plug it in and read fault codes stored. That is step one in diagnosing a condition as you detail here. This step cannot be skipped as it is a must to know if there are fault codes stored. The check engine lamp need not be illuminated for codes to be present. Update this same post with the code numbers, and if by chance there are no codes present, state that as well because that says something also.

Very strong probability that the catalytic converter is clogged. A clogged cat would give you a P0300 random misfire and a catalytic converter that is not working can and usually does set a P0420. The P0440 is likely a bad Canister Vent Solenoid/Valve unrelated to the other two codes. To confirm the cat, remove the O2 sensor before the cat (yes there will be a loud exhaust leak) and then road test car and if power returned you know the cat is plugged. See how nice codes tell a story.
