Check the transaxle under the hood, is the shift cable still hooked-up? You may be able to shift transaxle lever by hand to get it in park. There are safety issues with that, safety is your responsibility. Have a helper in the car with foot on the brake till you decide you got it in park. Go from there. Possible something wrong with shifter in center console?

You are the man. The shift cable was not hook on. But I do have a follow up question. How do I loosen or tighten it? Do I do this by turning the cable clockwise or counter clock wise. For instance I put it on but it came off later.

This problem is related to loose or worn shifter cable. Replace the shift cable as an assembly - cost is around $51.00 from most on-line parts vendors.

The parts are readily available from these many on-line sources, www.partsgeek.com, www.rockauto.com, www.discountautoparts.com, www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.jcwhitney.com - to list only a few possibilities.
In fact, they (RockAuto) list the shifter cable assembly from around $52.00 for your vehicle.

Check the 'How-to-Guides'feature on the AutoMD website for the specific steps to replace the cable assembly.

Difficulty shifting gears, linkage is slipping
Linkage is loose and appears to be missing pin, how to repair it yourself

My husband found that you can use a 1/4 in. wide stainless steel bolt and put it where the linkage is hooked to the transmission at the end of the rod.

Sounds like there is a hydraulic issue with your slave cylinder. First make sure your clutch reservoir is full. Not sure mileage on your vehicle but your clutch disc could be wore, however usually you get no grab in the clutch when letting out pedal.

First step - have the stored fault codes or check engine light scanned - for free - at any local auto parts store; Advance Auto, Auto Zone, NAPA. Then, post a reply as 'add answer' with the specific code for more assistance. There may be a fault code stored in the OBD memory which may not be displayed as a check engine light.

Possible Causes of Engine Hesitation or Stumble:

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this)
      Dirty air filter (change filter)
Dirty / clogged fuel filter (change filter)
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
      Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

      Dirty or worn spark plugs
      Bad plug wires
      Weak ignition coil
      Wet plug wires

Need more information - does the engine idle at normal speeds / RPMs in park or neutral gears? Does the transmission shift OK once leaving the idle speed condition after the stop condition?
    • AutoMD Member
      5/31/2014 AutoMD Member
yes everything is normal but when i take off thats when the problem starts the rpms will go up for a few seconds but goes back down sometimes it seems to running out of gear not shiting

OK - check these items as first steps; transmission fluid level (refill as required), check under the hood for any engine vacuum leaks (hoses dry or cracked - replace as required) especially in the area of the air intake before and aft of the air filter.

So, by your description - it seems the transmission does not upshift when accelerating like normal away from a stop - is this correct? The transmission remains in the lower gear, but does not shift automatically to the higher gears when the vehicle speed dictates - is this correct? Does the transmission shift manually - that is - are you able to manually shift from first, to second, to third, etc. using the shifter selection?

yes is does not always shaft automatically it takes awhile if at all fluid levels are normal
