How to keep track of my gas in tank when the gas gauge is broken?

Thanks Mike, but unfortunately that is broken also. That was a good idea but I failed to mention that the mileage indicator is broken. And to be honest the gas gauge never goes up to a full tank, the indicator starts at the half way mark. And the gas gauge is now bouncing around, so I am not really sure how much gas I have in the tank. I know don't say it, I really need another car, but first I need to win the powerball :-p. But thanks Mike, if you think of anything else please let me know.

After being serviced, the service light will not go off. How can I turn it off in the dashboard window?
The change oil and low tire air will not go off

      1. First you need to turn your car On. This is not starting the car! Turn the key two "clicks" forward. All the dashboard lights should come on, along with the radio and odometer.

If your GM has the four buttons on the dashboard with all sorts of information:
One button should have a road or "i" on it. Pushing this button will show your mileage, tire pressure, operating temperature, and all sorts of other stuff.
You are looking for "oil life ##%". Once you find this, press and hold the button with the check-mark on it. After 5-10 seconds it should flash "oil life reset". Tada!

If your vehicle does not have the buttons mentioned above:
Turn the car "On" (without starting car!!)
Press the gas pedal all the way to the floor 3 times within 5 seconds. This is trickier than it sounds. It must be pressed ALL the way to the floor ALL 3 times.
Then wait 5-10 seconds. The Change Oil Soon light should blink then go out. If not, turn the car off and go through the steps again.

      2. A low tire air will trigger the TPMS ( tire pressure monitor system ). Check the tire pressure for all tires ( including the spare tire as well ).

If the low tire air won't go off, try this tip .

The 'best' spark plugs are the ones designed to fit your engine, and the application. Check the many on-line parts sources;such as www.RockAuto.com, www.autopartswarehouse.com, or www.autopartsfair.com - for the replacement parts.

Insufficient coolant , trapped air in the cooling system might not have enough coolant to full fill the heater core.
The hot coolant flows from the engine to the heater core through the "inlet" hose. After circulating through the core, the coolant returns to the water pump through the "outlet" or "return" hose. Both the inlet and outlet return hoses should feel hot when the engine is at normal operating temperature and the heater is on.

      1. If the both heater core hoses were cooled, then this vehicle might have an insufficient coolant in the cooling system.
      2. If the heater core inlet hose is hot and the outlet hose is cool, the heater core might be clogged.

Note: check the radiator coolant level and top it off as needed.

Some cooling systems have air bleed valves built into the system to aid in the removal of air pockets. Advice: For many cooling systems, the method of removing air pockets is to start the engine and allow it to run with the radiator cap off or loose until all the air escapes from the neck of the radiator. For some systems this method is not sufficient, and the manufacturer has installed air bleed valves usually near or on the thermostat housing.

I hear and feel a clunking when the car starts to roll.
The car runs smoothly and accelerates great. No vibration. Handles well, no C/V clattering. No hard shifting .Tranny's been re-worked. Car has 132,000 original miles. No engine lights,or warnings. I would also like to know if this automobile requires a 4-wheel ...

The sound could be due to several possibilities; worn / faulty suspension bushing, worn / faulty strut mount or bushing. Check the 'How-To-Guides' feature for steps to check the front suspension and components for excess play and wear.
A four wheel alignment is a good idea whenever the front end components are replaced.

    Cleaning the radiator
where is the drain plug for the radiator

    • Jimm
      12/15/2012 Jimm
Usually, the drain plug is located on the bottom inside or on the underside of the radiator. If no drain plug, then simply loosen the lower radiator hose connection at the radiator and drain the coolant.

First question - where is the beeping noise coming from? Is this the same noise as the chime for the keys in the ignition? Are there any other indicators lit up or illuminated? Have you checked all of the conditions under the hood, for example; the brake fluid, the engine oil level, and all other fluid levels as a first step?

At any rate, the beeping or chiming can be traced to the source underneath the instrument panel - where the beeping sound can be unplugged - once the source of the noise has been corrected.

      11/24/2012 jonesmyra34
yes its that chime noise. and we are thinking it has something to do with the fuses because it started after we checked them. and where is the instrument panel? because that noise is irritating. no lights are on in the car. would low oil make it beep constantly like that?
