Rookie 53 - 1990 Nissan Maxima - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 12/10/2014Ok, this is my first car I bought it for $500, trying to decide to keep it or not. I drove it after changing all spark plugs and testing all cylinders they are fine.. Changed the oil but not the oil filter , rookie mistake. When it comes down to it I'm lost with ...
12/10/2014 Teddy BNo trans fluid additive will make for a fix
In fact if you already have internal damage it may slip worse
So forget the Lucus & other products
Just changing the fluid may cause it it slip if is already & your
not aware of the problem or how to test for it
You remove the bolts holding the pan on the bottom of the transaxle
There will not be a drain plug
Make sure you use the correct fluid if you do change it
May not be a filter in there to change just a screen you forget about
I would say get rid of it if the trans is not working as new fluid may bring
it to a complete halt.
If you want to get a free road test & evaluation go to a trans shop
Just keep in mind you paid $500 for the car & the shops job is to
pitch a complete rebuild for $3,500
You may need that but a 1990 vehicle is pretty well used up
3rd gear only could be several things but nothing your going to do yourself
or get at ,such as a shift solenoid or the need to clean the valve body
Pretty much have to pull the trans to do that
chan13 - 2007 Nissan Maxima - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 11/30/2014It tries to start up but will not, had been previously acting up while driving would go really slow even if I'm all the way on the gas. Power steering and oil is low, lights comes on when trying to start also
Ryan H - 1999 Nissan Sentra - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 11/16/2014So I"m driving slowly 20 to 30 mph its fine the RPM is normal for that speed I try to bring it to 40 the engine revs but I lose more and more power to the wheels so I stop and I smell a plastic like chemical smell with some smoke its not oil, and I checked the ...
AutoMD Member - 1997 Nissan Quest - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 10/28/2014Driving on freeway suddenly started losing speed and car would not accelerate
8/1/2014 JimmFirst step - have the stored fault codes or check engine light scanned - for free - at any local auto parts store; Advance Auto, Auto Zone, NAPA. Then, post a reply as 'add answer' with the specific code for more assistance. There may be a fault code stored in the OBD memory which may not be displayed as a check engine light.
Possible Causes of Engine Hesitation or Stumble:
Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this)
Dirty air filter (change filter)
Dirty / clogged fuel filter (change filter)
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)
Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:
Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires
10/28/2014 KmartinSorry for the double post. Hopefully the moderator will delete the second one. I failed to mention that it is the secondary timing system that has a problem. Evidently the fasteners are faulty and there are problems with the secondary system as a result.
Kate - 2007 Nissan Sentra - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 10/20/2014I think that a local mechanic might have put too much transmission fluid in my vehicle while doing some repairs. I was told that this was impossible. Who is right?
NissanX - 2005 Nissan Xterra - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 9/23/2014This issue is through all gears and started on Weds 9/17/14. Reverse is fine, but when going through the other gears the car revs hard before accelerating
Edwin - 1996 Nissan Maxima - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 9/17/2014When I drive the my car the transmission shifts hard on first gear
9/17/2014 alexpull the trans dipstick it should be red and smell like your power steering fluid. if it smells burnt or is brown or black it is a sign of something bad. if its low take your time filling it over full will make it shift funny too. also what is the idle rpm of the engine. if it idles high that would make it go in hard also.
stephensethan123 - 2006 Nissan 350Z - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 9/14/2014I recently replaced the entire clutch in my 06 nissan 350z and the engine feels like it skips and shutters for a second or two. I believe this is happening because the new clutch kit and flywheel are half the weight of the old one and the computer isn't reading it ...

AutoMD User - 2005 Nissan Quest - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 7/23/2014Need to replace the front left wheel bearing and tried to get an estimate from your site. However, only the rear wheel bearing keeps showing up. I got an estimate from VA Tire & Auto (South Riding, VA) for just the left front wheel bearing replacement for $740 ...
7/23/2014 JimmThe price quote received sounds too expensive - the front wheel / hub bearing assembly should cost no more than around $50.00 for the part itself.
You should be able to have both the front hub / bearing assemblies replaced for around $200.00 or so - both wheels as is recommended, due to age / mileage and wear considerations. Find another repair shop to perform the front hub / bearing assembly replacement for a much lower cost.
The parts are readily available from these many on-line sources, www.partsgeek.com, www.rockauto.com, www.discountautoparts.com, www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.jcwhitney.com - to list only a few possibilities.
In fact, they (RockAuto) list the front hub bearing assemblies from around $42.00 each for your vehicle.
Cj - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 7/23/2014to drive its takes time before the car moves at around 20 to 50 seconds. and then when you drive to long distance after you reach the stop lights and you are in the full stop the engines dies. same things as when you back up and turning to left or right at the ...
