Two days ago my 2012 Nissan versa was missing on my husband on his way to work. When he took lunch the car had no power and wouldn't pull. Took it to Advance after work and they hooked it up to a code reader. It said there was a problem with the mass air flow ...

Yes, check and refill the transmission fluid. Then, go to the Advance Auto store to request refund assistance for the trans fluid that was incorrectly drained out.

Trans shop installed new valve body. Symptons eliminated except for thud going from 2nd to 1st, Shop says ok.
The trans shop is saying there is a "learning" period with new valve body, that this will stop after 100 miles or so. Does not sound right to me. Thuds downshifting from 2nd to 1st are variable; sometimes hardly discernable, sometimes more like a slam and ...

You did not need a new valve body & I would believe you got a used one

After a transmission is installed as new in the factory when the vehicle is build
ALL trans parts are then called Hard Parts

They are from damaged vehicles or salvage yard Not New,Never New

I think they should have rebuilt it & installed new solenoids &
done all the updates & your wouldn't be where your at

      Not right

Do NOT use the car like that
You will ruin that trans in 25 miles of driving

The shop could have done any relearns

Why not clean the old valve body?
Nothing gained with someone else"s used piece

      Was the trans rebuild completely

$2,000 is almost a rebuild, certainly not a used valve body install

Car & trans have to be properly diagnosed before you can resume
      using it

They put a new valve body in, not a rebuilt old one.

Why does my 1990 Nissan maxima not shift into 3rd gear ???
Ok, this is my first car I bought it for $500, trying to decide to keep it or not. I drove it after changing all spark plugs and testing all cylinders they are fine.. Changed the oil but not the oil filter , rookie mistake. When it comes down to it I'm lost with ...

No trans fluid additive will make for a fix

In fact if you already have internal damage it may slip worse

So forget the Lucus & other products

Just changing the fluid may cause it it slip if is already & your
not aware of the problem or how to test for it

You remove the bolts holding the pan on the bottom of the transaxle
There will not be a drain plug

Make sure you use the correct fluid if you do change it

May not be a filter in there to change just a screen you forget about

I would say get rid of it if the trans is not working as new fluid may bring
      it to a complete halt.

If you want to get a free road test & evaluation go to a trans shop

Just keep in mind you paid $500 for the car & the shops job is to
pitch a complete rebuild for $3,500

You may need that but a 1990 vehicle is pretty well used up

3rd gear only could be several things but nothing your going to do yourself
or get at ,such as a shift solenoid or the need to clean the valve body

Pretty much have to pull the trans to do that

This sounds more like a transmission that has weak internal clutches or low fluid pressure. Usually this will happen when you accelerate rapidly and the tranny needs to downshift quickly.

First step - have the stored fault codes or check engine light scanned - for free - at any local auto parts store; Advance Auto, Auto Zone, NAPA. Then, post a reply as 'add answer' with the specific code for more assistance. There may be a fault code stored in the OBD memory which may not be displayed as a check engine light.

Possible Causes of Engine Hesitation or Stumble:

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this)
      Dirty air filter (change filter)
Dirty / clogged fuel filter (change filter)
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
      Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

      Dirty or worn spark plugs
      Bad plug wires
      Weak ignition coil
      Wet plug wires

I'm currently trying to find out whether or not it is worth replacing the timing chain in my 2005 Quest, and the problem with acceleration was one of the symptoms. Might have that checked, because it isn't something a mechanic would automatically assume in a 2005 vehicle. Several Nissan models from the 2004-2007 time frame have evidently been having this problem with the timing chain but despite a class action suit, Nissan corporate will not issue a recall.

Sorry for the double post. Hopefully the moderator will delete the second one. I failed to mention that it is the secondary timing system that has a problem. Evidently the fasteners are faulty and there are problems with the secondary system as a result.

Is it possible to overfill the transmission fluid? I have a 6 speed manual transmission.
I think that a local mechanic might have put too much transmission fluid in my vehicle while doing some repairs. I was told that this was impossible. Who is right?

being a manual all you have to do to check is park it somewhere flat and pull out the fill plug. it's possable and it will make it shift hard and the trans run hotter.

Manual transmission revving hard before accelerating
This issue is through all gears and started on Weds 9/17/14. Reverse is fine, but when going through the other gears the car revs hard before accelerating

sounds like the clutch is starting to slip, your forward gears are higher ratio then reverse , so it takes more force for the clutch to hold.
