7/28/2012 JimmThe actual mileage is a variable, and will vary based on; driving conditions, road conditions, traffic, engine health (state-of-tune), wind, elevation, road incline, wheel alignment - and other factors. It may be what you are describing is the MPG readout on the instrument panel? If all conditions are OK - no driveability or performance issues - such as no engine warning lights - then this is normal.
The lower engine RPM at certain speeds is governed by the transmission - whether in overdrive or not. When in overdrive gear, the engine turns over less speed (less RPMs) to increase fuel mileage and decrease engine wear.
