check the electrical system...battery, wires, fuses, terminals, etc if they are all okay and not grounded, make sure other lights are turned off....you can take the car to a battery shop and check if it puts out the proper voltage i think 13.5-14, then check the voltage with all the lights, radio, a/c on and see if it still charges the battery...you can get to check the battery and alternator this way...you can then find out if you have to replace the battery or alternator... if the battery is bad it wont hold a charge ...if the alternator is faulty , it wont charge the battery...if it still doesn't work take it to a trusted shop/mechanic and have it diagnosed...there might be other problems that might have to be addressed...hope this helps..tell me how it turns out.

Forget the liquid, please check if the brake lights come on when you step on the brake paddle? IF not then change the brake light switch and the shifter will work just fine.

I would replace transmission control module if you are going through the trouble of replacing transmission. Module has to be updated by dealer with software download.

here are some suggestions.it might help you out.do you park your car on an inclined parking space?do you notice any fluid under the engine bay after being parked for a while?do you notice any fluid leak when your car is running?air can get in your fuel lines if the seals are worn out and you might have difficulty starting or might be sluggish during acceleration or going up hill or on inclines.did you notice any leaks on the hoses specifically the oil or fuel lines? take the car to a trusted shop for diagnostics so they can look for other possible problem.pay attention to the 1) gas tank-may have sediments, the tank has to be cleaned, 2) fuel lines the seals/o-rings maybe worn out due to wear and tear-have all 6 fuel lines replaced,3) check the fuel filter-if it has some air in it ,it confirms #2, if it's dirty have the filter replaced.if the problem is not there have 4) the electricals checked to make sure, while your at it 5)check your air filter, if it's dirty replace it because a dirty filter can decrease air intake to the engine and makes it sluggish lastly 6) have the oil checked it might have to be changed..hope this could helps you.if you got other questions i'll try to help.tell me how it turns out...benz guy 888

Car when (only) in reverse idles roughly/rattles. Trans fluid was black when changed... what could that be?
My mechanic changed spark plugs and wires thinking it could fix it - but it didn't. He thus ruled out engine issues. So we then changed the transmission fluid (which was BLACK) and filter - but the car still runs roughly in reverse only... (runs great in drive!) ...

having someone read the OBDII codes would be a good starting point.

Your dealer can do it, and give you an exact printout, or AutoZone will do it for free and give you a "general" printout. Either would be a good starting point..

Someone had the same problem and It was traced as being a lateral movement sensor. Situated somewhere near the handbrake. (Of course this may or may not be the problem for you). It cost him $577 at the dealership. For me its expensive but for you since you were able to buy an SLK, i assume you can also afford the maintenance. Good luck.

How do you check transmission fluid
Bump when you put car in drive

    • Spoon Sports
      10/28/2011 Spoon Sports

First, you may want to be aware that this transmission requires a special fluid; use of a generic transmission fluid will result in internal transmission damage.

Transmission fluid is added upwards, through the drain/ fill plug located in the bottom of the transmission pan. A special fill tool and adapter fitting are required to do this.

I realize this is not a very user friendly way of filling the transmission, but several other manufacturers have similiar fill procedures including Ford, Isuzu, and Honda these days. According to mercedes this transmission fluid is good for the life of the vehicle and therefore should never need to be changed; as a result they seem to not have provided any method of filling the transmission without the special equipment found at the dealer.

"Bump when you put car in drive" - The problem could be anything chief, Benzes arent really DIY friendly specially with trannies.

How do i top up gear transmission oil since there is no dipstick
The hose that moves the transmission fluid to the radiator had a leakage but that has been fixed.

There will be a fill plug on one side or the other of the transmission itself. Might not be easily accessable, but there will also be a vent line on the top of the transmission that could be used. Check your vehicle owner's manual or repair manual, it will identify where and what type of fluid should be used for the tranny.

Your steering wheel lock might be out of adjustment and/or damaged. Try to turn your steering wheel back and forth, it is possible that your steering wheel lock is applying pressure that's why you can't turn your key.
