Climate Control Fan won't turn off. Replaced Blower Motor Resistor 3 times. Could it be Blower Motor and Why?
What makes the resistor stop working? I have tried to reapply the special grease used to ground the resistor to the motor both after and before problems arose.

If the blower motor itself is drawing an axcessive amount of amperage it will burn up the resistor. If you have a connection either at the blower motor or at the resistor that is burned / scorched / melted - that poor connection can cause a resistor burnup as well.

Need more information - what exactly is the question in regard? Is there a question about how to replace the fuel filter? Is there a question in regard to the cost?

If there is a question in regard to how to perform this maintenance step - then check the AutoMD website and search 'Preventative Maintenance' for similar vehicles.

What is causing the instrument panel to blink red rights on either side & beep?
It sounds like a radar detector but there isn't one installed in my car. It's a constant beeping.

If you have your owners manual you may want to read about the meanings of indicators on the instrument panel of your MB as often the best description of the meaning is right in the manual. It is likely that there are fault codes stored in the various modules of your MB but without a proper scan tool you will be unable to read them. I just bought an SL550. I am a mechanic 37 years. I am investing in a $600 MB star tester (Chinese knockoff) so I can read all data and never get caught needing to take car to dealer because the dealer will make a MB owner pay a ton of money for services. If you do any of your own work on this car I suggest you do the same unless you are not mechanical and cannot deal with the diagnostic details.

    Oil gasket pan leaking
is this really the oil gasket pan or may be something else and how to fix it?

    • HouseCallAuto
      11/8/2013 HouseCallAuto
Again, if the PCV system is non-functioning because of sludge buildup the engine builds up internal pressure and this makes things purge oil, things that would not normally leak oil are only leaking because there is positive pressure PSI forcing the leak. That can include the oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, seals etc.

Check to see if there is a 12 volts going to the retractable antenna motor ( RAM ). if there is a 12 volts, then the RAM is broken, replace the whole unit.

Mercedes Benz Service A, Mercedes A Service

Mercedes Benz Service A Covers the Following and at the local dealership runs nearly $300 with tax!

      - Inspect and record tread depth, and correct tire pressure
      - Rotate tires (excludes AMG, Sports Models, SLK, and vehicles with staggered wheels)
      - Engine oil change and oil filter replacement
      -Includes Mobil 1 synthetic oil
      - Lubrication service
      - Includes hood hinges, lock cylinders, striker
plates, sun roof tracks and top off all fluids
      - Cooling system inspection
      - Includes antifreeze protection level, hoses and
      clamps
      - Brake inspection
      - Includes check of pad thickness and condition of
      discs, fluids and lines
      - Inspect heating and ventilation dust filter, replace if needed. (Replacement additional. Dust filter prices vary by model)
      - Function check
      - Includes warning lamps, headlights, exterior
lights, seat belts, windshield wiper and washer
      - Inspect and lubricate throttle linkage
      - Check and clean air filter
      - Reset flexible service system counter

Anything that is not acceptable under Check or Inspect of course costs more to actually repair these items.

So, basically this is a $300 oil change, plus the checking of everything that you should normally do when changing your oil to make sure that your car is in tip top condition, plus a tire rotation and resetting the FSS light.
So if you are pretty handy, have some basic tools, and a repair manual you can easily do this job yourself and save.

No listing for the cabin air filter for the '82 model Mercedes 300TD. Check the vehicle owners manual to see if equipped with a cabin air filter - not all vehicles have them.

Check the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.partsgeek.com, www.rockauto.com - to list only a few - for the replacement parts.

Where is the washer pump located on my vehicle

    • Jimm
      6/23/2013 Jimm
Remove the passenger front wheel. Then, towards the front of the vehicle, remove the inner fender well cover. The washer pump is behind a plastic liner. There are a couple 8mm nuts and at the bottom of the liner, in front of the tire, below the headlight location there are two compression pin connectors to pop out. The liner is actually 2 liners, a front half and a rear half. I think you'd only need to play with the front half.

The washer motor and pump runs both the headlight and the windshield washers. Check the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.partsgeek.com, www.carpartswarehouse.com, or www.rockauto.com for the replacement parts. For example, they (RockAuto) list the washer pump from around $5.00 for your vehicle.

The engine air intake filter is located under the hood, just ahead of the engine. There will be a square or rectangular housing - which contains the air intake filter for the engine. This part is very easy to replace.

Check the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.autopartswarehouse, www.carpartswarehouse.com, or www.rockauto.com for the replacement parts.
