Just bought a '00 e320 Benz. Should I go to dealer to change oil? Is there a charge to diagnose if problems exist?Benzblessed - 2000 Mercedes Benz E320 - Preventive Maintenance - 3/18/201275,000 miles... Although display reads service b needed in 6000 miles. Help!-
3/18/2012 HouseCallAutoSure, go to the dealer if you want to get the most expensive oil change you have ever seen in your life. Read your owners manual to identify what "service B" means, it also might say how to reset the message center. Service b actually means the oil and filter change and a complete look over for brake pad wear, rotate tires if needed, yadda, yadda yadda, etc, etc. Just a routine check of basics, no worries. The reset procedure is also printed in your owners manual, requires no special tools, just patience to understand the steps. Button pushing. Go to your local guy that you have had fix your other cars. he can change the oil in your 320 and likely rest the message center.

3/18/2012 JimmAny component has the potential to break at any time. Breakage, or failure - is not necessarily mileage-specific.
Aslong as the routine andrecommended maintenance is performed there should be few surprises.

3/10/2012 Jay GironNormally you can clear the SRS light when the car is on, full lock the steering wheel left and then full lock right. I have done this before and it has worked.
But if it doesn't you will have to buy a Carsoft multiplexed scanner to diagnose the problem.

3/10/2012 BillBatteries generally don't set off light, a faulty alternator or voltage regulator will because this is what the idiot light is telling you,,,,, that no voltage or amperage is getting to battery and accessories.

3/2/2012 yboy82Yeah it is possible that your ignition switch is faulty and/or your steering wheel lock is out of adjustment or broken (and it is applying pressure that's why you can't turn your key.

3/1/2012 yboy82P0170 means Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 1). P0170 indicates a malfunction in the PCM control of the air-fuel ratio. Bank 1 is the side of an engine that has cylinder 1.
Possible Causes:
Dirty or defective MAF sensor
Vacuum leak
Defective fuel pressure regulator
Defective O2 sensor
Oil contamination in the cam/crank sensor wiring or MAF/O2 sensor connector
Possible Solutions:
Clean or replace MAF sensor
Replace fuel regulator
Replace damaged or cracked vacuum hoses
Clean cam/crank sensor wiring or MAF/O2 sensor connector
Replace O2 sensor

2/12/2012 BillRecheck to make sure brake calipers are not loose and also check wheel play for any looseness with wheel off ground. If a shop did this, take back.
2/13/2012 benieThanks Bill. I took it back and I was told that I now need front rotors. Meanwhile they did the inspection and recommended that I do the back brakes and rotors which is what I did.
