P0730 Incorrect Gear Ratio = means that the PCM detected an incorrect gear ratio because of excessive slip within the transmission.
The first thing to check would be the transmission fluid level. An under-filled transmission could result in insufficient hydraulic line pressure causing the transmission to slip.

Check the electric harness located in the transmission. Follow all the wires since the first part of the harness (on engine) up to the end of the harnness (in the transmmision connector), check if they are not broken or shorted (move and squeeze the cables).
Then check if there are no blown fuses.
If all these looks ok; then you have to open the transmission oil pan and look into the solenoid´s harness, check if they aren´t shortened, loosened, or broken

What is the repair history & maintenance after 100K miles. Would like to keep it for 150K miles.

    • Jimm
      6/1/2012 Jimm
Usually, the maintenance intervals would repeat - say after the 60k or 75k recommended items - on through the 100k or 150k and onwards. Check the vehicle owners or maintenance manuals for the details.

Help! I just recharged my AC. On the way home I heard a loud POP. no more cold air? small discharge of cold air inside?
The mechanic did put in a small of amount of the blue stuff in case of a leak....the discharge of cold air in side for a couple seconds is a concern and my fan located in front of grill was running even when the AC was OFF? Just hoping someone will shed some light ...

P0300 = Random Multiple Cylinder Misfire

A P0300 diagnostic code indicates a random or multiple misfire. If the last digit is a number other than zero, it corresponds to the cylinder number that is misfiring. A P0302 code, for example, would tell you cylinder number two is misfiring. Unfortunately, a P0300 doesn't tell you specifically which cylinder(s) is/are mis-firing, nor why.

A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
      •Faulty spark plugs or wires
      •Faulty coil (pack)
      •Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
      •Faulty fuel injector(s)
      •Burned exhaust valve
      •Faulty catalytic converter(s)
      •Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
      •Faulty camshaft position sensor
      •Defective computer

      Possible Solutions

If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Random misfires that jump around from one cylinder to another (read: P030x codes) also will set a P0300 code. The underlying cause is often a lean fuel condition, which may be due to a vacuum leak in the intake manifold or unmetered air getting past the airflow sensor, or an EGR valve that is stuck open.

Any special tools required to change spark plugs? were is fuel filter located,

    • Jimm
      5/6/2012 Jimm
No special tools - maybe a spark plug sockt - same as deep well socket only includes a foam inert to protect the spark plug ceramic. Only need a plug gap tool or feeler guage to set the spark plug gap before installing.
The fuel filter is usually located by the fuel tank near the fuel pump. You can access the filter via an access panel underneath the rear seat.
Try the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.RockAuto.com or www.autopartswarehouse.com for the replacement parts.

How to sell Mercedes that is not classic, yet but already not really transportation?
How to sell Mercedes that doesn't fall into either category: transportation or classic car? Today's market is great for real "oldies" but 81 is too young! ...And it is convertible which means more maintenance. There are sites like M.B.C.A. (Merc. Benz Club of ...

It all depends on the condition to determine the value and relative selling-ability. A cleaner vehicle - in good or better condition - regardless of the type - will always command interest and buyers.

Thanks Jimm. It is in a good condition but what happenned when I posted craigslist ad I received tons of spam only. THat is versus receiving very little spam but tons of replies when posting an ad about '8o (1 year even older!) motorbike (Honda). What I heard so far is that that car - the year, the price (it is not a transport, like I say but a lux item, expensive in ways yet peculiar) could be sold ONLY (that's opinion of professional at Auto Museum not far from me) through special help.
