The PCMs may be interchangeable to a point - depending on the year, the engine size and specific transmission. The PCM will still need to be reflashed / reset-up by the dealership to be correct for the vehicle it's installed into - and calibrated to the specific vehicle components. The PCMs are VIN protected so unless you flash it you cannot go from one vehicle to another. There is another consideration - the security code - some vehicles have the security code in the PCM, and some do not. Those PCMs with secuirty code will not easily interchange with a PCM without.
By the way, the 4.7 is different from the 3.9 and 5.x series engines and the PCMs are not interchangeable.

As far as the no BUS condition - you may have a loose/bad connection. Check the plugs and pins for corrosion, and inspect the wire harness between the PCM and the dashboard for any worn insulation/bare wire/frayed wire or anything else out of the ordinary.

Replace the plugs with plugs bought from Mercedes. Do not use resistor type. Make sure they are gapped correctly (the dealership can verify the gap for you). Try again.

Check the 'How-To-Guides' feature on the AutoMD website. You'll need to loosen (release tension) on the drive belt tensioner to install the new drive belt.

HOW DOES THE COOLING FAN WORKS

there is a temperature sensor on top of engine block on injector side of block. It has two pins on top of it. When your engine begins to run hotter than normal this sensor tells the fan to come on. This starts to happen frequently when the fan clutch goes bad. To check fan operation, crank engine, use a small screwdriver and short out the two pins against each other(you won't get shocked). Do not pull plug off of sensor pins while doing this check. Fan is defective if it does not turn on.

The camshaft Hall-effect sensor is located at the front of the engine (standing at front of the car) to the right and close to the thermostat. A camshaft position sensor is not difficult to replace - check the 'How-To-Guides' feature on the AutoMD website.
