    How to fix air ride after switch was not shut off when tires were lifted? The car is to the ground, no bags.

      I do not understand this question? The switch for the air bags was left on and the car was lifted, and now the car is on the ground and you have no air bags? Chances are if your air bags are fully extended and they dont want to let out air you might have to manualy reset the bag by pulling the valuve on the air bag. this will let the air out so that the sensor will adjust. If this is to hard you can also pull off the ride high sensor and while the car is on adjust it so that the car thinks it needs to let the air out. Chances are if the bags are to full it can pass the usability of the senser and this alone will not alow the air out of the bags. If this is not the issue then i do not understand your question and you should reopost your question more clearly.

    My air suspension all went down
    since they all went down at once I presume it's a sensor but I don't know where to locate the module that controls it - any help would be appreciated

      It is only a matter of time befor the air bags go out on a lincoln. All of your air bags go flat when the car senses the ride hight is uneven. There is a good chance only 1 or 2 of your bags are bad and not the sensors. The bags might not look bad but if you take them off and extend them all the way you are more then likely to find fine cracks in the air bag from (dry rotting). When my air bags where going down every time after i parked it i did alot of research on forums and found this to be the case. If you go to a dealer you can expect to pay nearly $300 per bag to replacer them and thats just the bag. If all your bags are about the same age i would recommend taking out all your air bags and converting it to springs and struts system. there are alot of companies that make these conversion kits at pennies compared to getting all new bags at the dealer. The system i put into my lincoln mark 8 was manufactured by strutmaster. But like i said you probably have dry rott on one of your bags and its more then likely not a sensor. Also you can ride your car with rotted bags for a while but eventualy your air pump will go out and those alone are $200 ea to replace. Now that you have the answer it is time to make a choice. One other thing, if you watch your car long enuff youll be able to see what bag is going low. After watching youll be able to hear all the other bags valves open and let out the air to level out, more then likely your bad bag is in the front as these bags get the most use when driving your car so if you plan on pulling out the bags and extending them to check for hair line cracks thats where i would start. Another way to check if it is a bad bag is when your driving do you hear your air pump come on often? If your car is parked and running after being pumped up you can sit there and listent for the pump to turn on several times withing 30 min. some times it wont do this but listen for the pump if you hear it several times while operating the vehical i can amost promis your its (dry rott) and the bags have holes in them. Location: the dry rot location is often on the edge of the bage closest to the lower control arm. This is where the bag folds the most. I hope this helps and good luck.

      check your local auto parts store. many stores offer a tool rental for free. Where im from: napa, orileys, and autozone all have free tool rental. otherwise a hammer works for removal and alot of dw-40, but that can be a real pain too.

      I forgot to add this as well. but depending on the ball joint that your trying to remove, upper or lower on the control arm. some times it is just about the same price to do the whole control arm over just the ball joint itself. Both upper and lower control arm ball joints can be pressed out. In most cases I believe the lower control arm is easier to take out as it is more accessable were as the upper control arm is much harder to get a handle on to take appart unless you take it out of the car. If you take the control arm out of the car you can use a vice and hammer to remove the ball joint. As far as replacing these parts on my own car i simply replaced the whole upper and lower control arms in my car as through my personal sources i got the parts dirt cheep about $225 for both upper and lower for both passanger and driver side.

    Steering noise at very slow speed maximum steering wheel turn
    why do i hear a thump when i turn the steering wheel to it's maximum and then straighten the steering wheel out at a very slow speed 5-10 mph 50,000 miles on car

    Problems with air ride
    Just replaced the compressor on the air ride and the rear doesn't pump up after the front does and in a few minutes the rear is on the ground??? Is there a computer that controls the air ride and where is it??

      Relief Valves
      A Lincoln's air suspension uses a small, separate air compressor under the driver’s side left fenderwell, and air lines run to the air bags. On top of each air bag is a electrical valve that serves as a relief valve that allows air to be exhausted when activated. The valve senses the amount of air pressure within the air bag to keep both sides equal. These valves are operated via a leveling sensor that is attached to the body of the car and to the rear axle by a movable arm. When the rear of the car drops because of an increased load, the arm is pushed up, turning on the air compressor and filling the air bags to level the car. When the load is removed and the arm moves down, indicating that the back of the car has risen, the sensor opens the valve on the air bags and allows air to escape, lowering the car.

      Air-Suspension Switch
      If the back of the car is low, indicating that the air suspension is not working, and the air suspension light is on, check the fuse. If the fuse is all right, make sure the air-suspension switch in the trunk is on. This switch is used when the car is in for service. Always turn off the switch before lifting the car, because the sensor will think the car is rising and keep the air bag valves open, ruining the rear air suspension.


      Switch Terminals
      Turn the ignition key with the engine off, and listen for the compressor to come on while pushing down on the rear bumper. If it does not come on, test the switch terminals for power with a circuit tester. If one terminal has power and the other does not, replace the switch.

      If there is power, turn the switch to the "Off" position, raise the vehicle and place it on jack stands in the rear. Inspect the leveling switch on the axle, making sure it is not bent and is connected. Use an ohmmeter for this test. Pull the electrical connector off the switch. Loosen the arm of the switch from the axle. Test the switch with the ohmmeter by checking across both terminals while slowly moving the arm. There should be no continuity with the arm down. As the arm is raised, there should be continuity. If not, replace the switch. If there was continuity, connect the arm and the electrical connector.

      Check for Power
      Put a floor jack under the axle and raise the axle so it is just beginning to lift the car off the jack stand. Turn on the ignition. Turn the air suspension switch to the "On" position. Use the circuit tester to check for power at the leveling switch. If there is power, turn the air-suspension switch to "Off" and lower the car.

      Access the air compressor in the front, under the hood, and check the electrical connector for power. If there is power, check for a good ground. If both are good, replace the compressor. If the compressor works and the car does not rise in the back, replace the air bags.

      if it's on, you have a leak, either at a bag or line, or your pump is burned out-look around, it does NOT have to be fixed at the dealer, and there are dozens of forums that have a wealth of information on how to reasonably correct this common problem. This system, while very good, needs to be maintained-bags go bad over time, damage occurs to the pump if it is constantly trying to fill a leaking bag, and lines do get damaged-solenoids can get damaged, relays fail, and modules malfunction-there's always coil-spring replacements, too, once in and if a good set will outlast any air-spring set.

      Never done one to be honest ,could be low on pressure though but how you check it ? buy a haynes manual for what good they are but it may give you a pretty picture

    Auto leveling Suspension amuck, could this be an easy fix ?
    Ended up with this car a few weeks ago. Sharp running car few small problems nothing major. My wife takes it to the store for that girl thing, and the nose goes down and the rear goes up, what is going on ? No off roading, curb jumping, or things of that nature.

      Would this also work for the front ? Beings the rear is to the sky, the nose is in the dirt... Four lines coming off the compressor, right left, for and aft.

    How do I adjust the air suspension on my 2001 Lincoln Navigator. The left rear is lower than the right side rear.
    I replaced both air bags and shock absorbers in the rear (doesn't have airbags in the front) I also changed the air pump with a new one. It seems the pump is going thru the motions of pumping up the system but the driver rear hangs lower than the passenger rear.

      You have to have the dealer do a Ride Height Calibration Procedure using the Ford scan tool as there is a selection on the menu to adjust the rear height. Cannot do this at home.

    My front airbags work part time.they pump up and hold on occasion then go flat with no warning-sometimes while driving
    however recently they havent pumped up at all. I think it is possibly something to do with the electronics of the system but not sure how to remedy the problem. I will be selling the car as soon as I can get this problem repaired/fixed. Thanks for any help.
