Periodically my air suspension light comes on and I lose my power steering.
Sometimes I'll get it to turn off by turning the car off for a few minutes and turning it back on. I get my power steering back and no lights on panel.

What parts need to be replaced if the rear end of my car squeaks when you bounce on the bumper; and clunks on bumps?
Sometimes the rear sounds like metal hitting metal. I have replaced the shocks/struts in the recent past, not because of the current issue.

If the compressor is not turning on, make sure the height sensor linkage has not come off leaving the height sensor disconnected. the height sensor is at the rear of the car attached to one of the upper control arms. Check the fuse also (engine compartment fuse panel - fuse U - 30 amp) . if the compressor runs but the car is slow to level out or does not level out, get the car on ramps (safely) and with the key turned on and engine off, spray the air bags with windex and look for foaming at the folds near the bottom of the bag or bags indicating air leakage. replace the bags as needed. buy online at strutmasters.com as few sites seem to sell the bags at all and some sites want too much.

Can I change the upper control arms on my vehicle without removing the springs/struts? Thanks
By looking at the control arm I can't really tell if I will have to remove the spring/shocks to take the bolts out of the control arm.

Handling Problem on Lincoln Town Car
My 2003 Lincoln Town Car spontaneously feels like it is driving on ice. I have to slow right down and grasp the steering wheel with both hands and keep it dead straight to maintain control. Five minutes later it is O.K.

No diagrams here. Question: Do you hear the air compressor turn on AT ALL? If not >>

      1. Verify the main 30A fuse in the engine compartment fuse box is present and has battery voltage on both sides.

      2. If the fuse is OK, go to the air suspension module in the trunk. Ground pin 23 Dark Blue/Yellow (DB/YE) and verify the compressor relay in the engine compartment fuse box clicks and that the compressor runs.

      3. If the relay clicks, but the compressor doesn't run, check for battery voltage to the compressor on the Purple/Orange (P/O) wire with the DB/YE still grounded.

      4. If battery voltage is present on the P/O wire, check for a ground on the Black (BK) wire. If power and ground are both OK, but the compressor is not running, replace the compressor and retest.

Why is my air suspention not working?
I took my car into the shop the other day to have a tire patched. We cut off the air suspention in the trunk and after the repair we cut it back on. The air compressor kicked on and reinflated the air bags. But since then, the air compressor has not come back on and ...

If you've even jacked the car up to change a wheel the air suspension can freak out. Most of the time it just needs to be reset. Check your owners manual for the air suspension switch location. Usually in the trunk. Turn it off and back on and see if that fixes it.

I tried that and nothing happened. It acts like the air compressor is not getting power.

Several possibilities; leaking suspension air bag, faulty air bag connection or hoses, or faulty system control relay or fuse. Since you have replaced the 30 amp fuse - then I would suspect the air compressor is faulty.

You can repair / replace the current air bag suspension components, or convert the air system to hydraulic.
Try the conversion kit or the replacement parts - from the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.RockAuto.com, www.suncoreindustries.com, www.autopartswarehouse.com or www.strutmasters.com. For example, they (RockAuto) lists the rear shock conversion kit for around $134.00 - and you can compre this to the air compressor cost of around $195.00 on up.

Thanks for the assistance. I think I may just order the conversion kit and be done with it.

lincolns are good cars so yes but there is a cheaper and in the long run you will never have to worry about that problem agiain and that is to do away with the air ride and replace it with coil springs
