    Why is my air suspention not working?
    I took my car into the shop the other day to have a tire patched. We cut off the air suspention in the trunk and after the repair we cut it back on. The air compressor kicked on and reinflated the air bags. But since then, the air compressor has not come back on and ...

      If you've even jacked the car up to change a wheel the air suspension can freak out. Most of the time it just needs to be reset. Check your owners manual for the air suspension switch location. Usually in the trunk. Turn it off and back on and see if that fixes it.

      I tried that and nothing happened. It acts like the air compressor is not getting power.

      Several possibilities; leaking suspension air bag, faulty air bag connection or hoses, or faulty system control relay or fuse. Since you have replaced the 30 amp fuse - then I would suspect the air compressor is faulty.

      You can repair / replace the current air bag suspension components, or convert the air system to hydraulic.
      Try the conversion kit or the replacement parts - from the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.RockAuto.com, www.suncoreindustries.com, www.autopartswarehouse.com or www.strutmasters.com. For example, they (RockAuto) lists the rear shock conversion kit for around $134.00 - and you can compre this to the air compressor cost of around $195.00 on up.

      If you look in the trunk you will find plug that fits the old style code puller if you plug the old style code puller in it will reset the air ride control module .

    Our Mark VIII 's air suspension has a leak. randomally the car lowers than picks up again. Is it worth replacing ?
    Should replace with same type of system or a new system? Only 75000 miles.

      lincolns are good cars so yes but there is a cheaper and in the long run you will never have to worry about that problem agiain and that is to do away with the air ride and replace it with coil springs

      I think you mean "rattles" (~_o). I own a 1984 Mark VII. I have been through the exact same front-end noise thing. The noise you hear could be coming from (1) defective and fairly inexpensive worn bushings on your vertical and related hardware found at the wheel-end of your tie rods, and/or (2) your entire rack and pinion (r/p) steering gear ($440 parts/labor) needs replacing; or the two binocular-like r/p bushings ($100); or the mid-r/p tie rod boots ($50) are either going out or have already gone bad and need to be replaced. A good preliminary step/test is to take the car in for a routine ($60) front-end inspection/alignment. The (qualified) technician will give you a more accurate idea of what is really going on and what is required to solve your front-end noise problem.

    Can the lower ball joints on a 96 Lincoln Town car be replaced?
    I've heard they cant be replaced, you have to replace lower control arm.

      The information you received is incorrect - both the upper and lower ball joints can be replaced separately from the control arm.

      Several possibiliies; leaking steering rack, leaking transmission seal or gasket. Place a piece of cardboard under the vehicle after driving - to determine the specific area or spot - where the leak may be coming from.

    Air supension light keep coming on.. car ride/drive really bad. the rear of the car is almost on the ground

      You will want to get the trouble codes read out of the electronic susspension to see why the light is remaining on. Also, check the rear height sensors to see if they are out of adjustment.



      Connect the New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the NGS menu.

      If the DTC's retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Rear Suspension Control Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue.

      he rear suspension ride height D dimension is adjusted by moving the rear air suspension height sensor mounting bracket inboard or outboard. A slot adjustment nut is provided on the bracket to adjust left or right as required. A one index change to the air suspension height sensor mounting bracket will yield approximately 5 mm (0.20 inch) change (up or down) to the vertical D dimension. WARNING:
      DO NOT REMOVE AN AIR SPRING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WHEN THERE IS PRESSURE IN THE AIR SPRING. DO NOT REMOVE ANY COMPONENTS SUPPORTING AN AIR SPRING WITHOUT EITHER EXHAUSTING THE AIR OR PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR THE AIR SPRING TO PREVENT VEHICLE DAMAGE OR PERSONAL INJURY.
      DISCONNECTING AN AIR LINE THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE AIR COMPRESSOR CAN CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE TO COMPONENTS AS HIGH PRESSURE AIR IS VENTED UNCONTROLLED .

      CAUTION: The suspension height D dimensions are for reference only. The vehicle attitude must be controlled by the proper dimensions to prevent vehicle damage.

      NOTE: Improper air suspension ride height D dimension may be caused by an air suspension system that is improperly set.

      Position the vehicle on a level surface over an open repair pit.
      Open the luggage compartment and verify that the air suspension switch is turned on.
      Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
      Add weight to the rear bumper so the vehicle rises to trim position.
      When the air compressor stops the vehicle is now at trim level. Remove the weight, then close the driver door and the vehicle will lower to the bottom of the ride height band.
      Rock the vehicle sideways to remove the effect of suspension friction and allow it to settle.
      Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, then turn the air suspension switch off to prevent inadvertent actuation of the system.
      Remove the weld flash from the inboard frame reinforcement rail surface.

      Position the Dimension Gauge-Ride Sensor on the rear axle.
      Measure the ride height D dimension.

      1) Release the set screw.
      2) Pull the sliding post and scale up until it touches the bottom of the inboard frame rail and lock the set screw.
      3) Measure the ride height D dimension

      Remove the Dimension Gauge-Ride Sensor and read the ride height D dimension.

      NOTE: If D ride height dimension is not within specification, adjust by moving the rear air suspension height sensor attaching bracket inboard (vehicle high) or outboard (vehicle low). Moving the bracket one index mark left or right will change the vertical D dimension approximately 5 mm (0.20 inch) .

      After adjustment is made, repeat steps 2-6 and 9-12.
