2/26/2012 rickWell now that the brakes are ok time to look else where . My money is on the fact that you have a wheel bearing thats bad . Jack up that side and grab the tire top and bottom and pull back anf forth . Bet it moves all around . Don't be driving till you fix it . Not alot of fun at 60 mph and have things come apart .

Grinding sound coming from rear of vehicle.marmarlet - 2006 Lincoln Zephyr - Brakes - 12/16/2011Is it possible for a stone to get caught somewhere in the brake to cause a grinding sound until it is miraculously ejected and the grinding stops?-
12/16/2011 JimmSeveral possibilities; worn / loose front or rear wheel bearing, worn brake pads, worn / warped brake rotor - or trapped stone - as you have suggested. Pull the wheel to check the brake condition - maybe consider having it checked by a competent and reputable repair shop.
Any abnormal noise heard is an indication that a condition needs to be checked. Try the 'How-To-Guides' feature on this website for specific steps to check and diagnose the brake system.
12/16/2011 marmarletIf it were the wheel bearings, wouldn't the noise continue? Also I had the brakes worked on earlier this year and haven't driven that far for them to be worn. The noise has stopped, so I was hoping that it wouldn't be the wheel bearings. Thank you for your answers. You are helping a poor, shaken retired old lady. (HeeHee!) -
