Does the co2 sensor just screwewd down into the catalitic converter?
uses 8 miles to the gallon

    • Nissan Technical Advisor
Yes it's easy installation but you need to scan the engine first, most likely its not the O2 sensor is defective. Get the codes and post them here so we can assist you better.

On this vehicle you should have 3, 2 on exhaust manifolds , 1 before midway down line as the two manifold pipes merge into one and before this converter

Why does my car have a big jolt when I put in reverse or sometimes it does not go in reverse at all?

There could be several causes for the concern you have stated. My first question is: Does it exhibit the concern all of the time or just during cold start-up? If it is only when cold the engine will be idling higher and thus more torque is input to the trans. The problem could lie in weak/busted engine and/or trans. mounts allowing the engine or tranny assy. to "jolt" around as you say. If it does it all the time I would still check the mounts, idle setting, throttle pressure(trans. shop), u-joints, rear-end(axle) backlash(wear). I would raise the hood and observe what is occurring as someone places the trans. in reverse. If nothing seems out of the ordinary to you I recommend a reputable shop in your area.

I've only noticed it when I either do a cold start or or sometimes After I let it run for about ten minutes. Thanks for the information. I'll have this checked out.

    Transmission speed sensor not registering

    • Nissan Technical Advisor
You might referring to vehicle speed sensor? If the sensor reading is not correct shifting performance is affected. Have it scanned to verify the fault, when this one fails, replacement is the only solution.

Check fluid level first and hope a band or a torque converter didn't go bad. When backing in the future, make sure you come to a complete stop before putting in drive for least amount of strain on transmission internal parts and service transmission at recommended intervals. I really don't know how to put a very good spin on this.

I checked the fluid and topped it off the issue I came across when I did that was puffs of smoke coming out of the tube that the trans fluid dipstick goes in. It seems that there is a pretty common solenoid problem with this model and I'm hoping that's what it is because I can afford to fix that. Then again I don't even know where to find a solenoid or what they look like. :(

Because a bad solenoid won't smoke like you are describing.

      P0770 LEXUS - Shift Solenoid E Malfunction

      Symptoms
      - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
      - Transmission will not shift gears.
      Possible causes
      - Low transmission fluid level
      - Dirty transmission fluid
      - Faulty shift solenoid E valve
      - Shift solenoid E valve harness or connectors
      - Shift solenoid E valve circuit is open or shorted
      P0770 LEXUS Description
The ECM uses the signals from the Throttle Position Sensor and Air–flow Meter to monitor the engagement condition of the lock–up clutch. Then the ECM compares the engagement condition of the lock–up clutch with the lock–up schedule in the ECM memory to detect mechanical trouble of the shift solenoid valve SLU, valve body, torque converter clutch and automatic transmission assembly
      When is the code detected?
The P0770 code is detected when Lock–up does not occur when driving in the lock–up range (normal driving at 80 km/h [50 mph]), or lock–up remains ON in the lock–up OFF range.

How to loosen belt tension arm to get belt back on

    • James Vaughn
      1/6/2011 James Vaughn
there is a bolt in the middle of the pulley that you attach a ratchet onto to take the tension off the tensioner pulley. some also have a hole that is square shaped that fit a 3.8 in. ratchet. either way you need some pretty good leverage to take the tension off so the longer the ratchet the better. may use a cheater bar as well. i.e. a pipe on the end of a ratchet
      James Vaughn
      1/6/2011 davis
the bolt actually loosen and came off. I took the pully wheel off to see if i saw anything where i could stick a wrench in but all it is a round hole where the bolt goes through that i took off. If i push down on the pulley it will move down but i cant get enough leverage to get the belt to fit. Now is that bolt suppose to come off
      James Vaughn
      1/6/2011 James Vaughn
no it is not. the bolt i assume u removed is the one that is holding the tensioner pully on. there are also places designed on the block to use for leverage if u slide a pry bar on the arm to this anchor point for additional leverage
