Transmission speed sensor not registeringgreg - 1994 Lexus ES300 - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 2/27/2011-
2/27/2011 Nissan Technical AdvisorYou might referring to vehicle speed sensor? If the sensor reading is not correct shifting performance is affected. Have it scanned to verify the fault, when this one fails, replacement is the only solution.

2/24/2011 BillCheck fluid level first and hope a band or a torque converter didn't go bad. When backing in the future, make sure you come to a complete stop before putting in drive for least amount of strain on transmission internal parts and service transmission at recommended intervals. I really don't know how to put a very good spin on this.
2/24/2011 josephI checked the fluid and topped it off the issue I came across when I did that was puffs of smoke coming out of the tube that the trans fluid dipstick goes in. It seems that there is a pretty common solenoid problem with this model and I'm hoping that's what it is because I can afford to fix that. Then again I don't even know where to find a solenoid or what they look like. :(
2/25/2011 BillAfter topping off does it move now?
2/25/2011 BillBecause a bad solenoid won't smoke like you are describing.

How many different solenoids does my transmission has? my car displays a code po770,which is tied to transmission faijoel - 1995 Lexus LS400 - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 1/18/2011-
1/18/2011 J and K AUTOMOTIVE TOWING AND REPAIRP0770 LEXUS - Shift Solenoid E Malfunction
Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Transmission will not shift gears.
Possible causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Faulty shift solenoid E valve
- Shift solenoid E valve harness or connectors
- Shift solenoid E valve circuit is open or shorted
P0770 LEXUS Description
The ECM uses the signals from the Throttle Position Sensor and Air–flow Meter to monitor the engagement condition of the lock–up clutch. Then the ECM compares the engagement condition of the lock–up clutch with the lock–up schedule in the ECM memory to detect mechanical trouble of the shift solenoid valve SLU, valve body, torque converter clutch and automatic transmission assembly
When is the code detected?
The P0770 code is detected when Lock–up does not occur when driving in the lock–up range (normal driving at 80 km/h [50 mph]), or lock–up remains ON in the lock–up OFF range.

How to loosen belt tension arm to get belt back ondavis - 1999 Lexus GS300 - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 1/6/2011-
1/6/2011 James Vaughnthere is a bolt in the middle of the pulley that you attach a ratchet onto to take the tension off the tensioner pulley. some also have a hole that is square shaped that fit a 3.8 in. ratchet. either way you need some pretty good leverage to take the tension off so the longer the ratchet the better. may use a cheater bar as well. i.e. a pipe on the end of a ratchet
1/6/2011 davisthe bolt actually loosen and came off. I took the pully wheel off to see if i saw anything where i could stick a wrench in but all it is a round hole where the bolt goes through that i took off. If i push down on the pulley it will move down but i cant get enough leverage to get the belt to fit. Now is that bolt suppose to come off
1/6/2011 James Vaughnno it is not. the bolt i assume u removed is the one that is holding the tensioner pully on. there are also places designed on the block to use for leverage if u slide a pry bar on the arm to this anchor point for additional leverage

Can the knock sensors be cleaned if not where are they and how hard are they to change outJim Stevenson - 2001 Lexus RX300 - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 12/31/2010Trans won't shift into overdrive all of the time...code pulls up bad knock sensor and bad o2 sensor -
Can the knock sensors be cleaned or do they have to be replaced? If so, where are they and how do you get to them?Jim Stevenson - 2001 Lexus RX300 - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 12/31/2010Trans won't shift into overdrive all the time code shows knock sensor bad and o2 sensor bad-
12/31/2010 James Vaughnyour knock sensor won't affect your trans not shifting into o/d. knock sensor is on the intake plenum but as i said it won't affect the o/d problem in your trans. the knock sensor adjusts the timing so your engine won't knock when you use gasoline of a lower octane level.

12/24/2010 J and K AUTOMOTIVE TOWING AND REPAIRA P0300 diagnostic code indicates a random or multiple misfire. If the last digit is a number other than zero, it corresponds to the cylinder number....
The first thing to try would be new spark plugs plugs and plug wires. This fixes misfires the majority of the time. If that doesn't help check the rotor and fuel injectors. .....good luck and happy holidays

12/24/2010 RX 300 DisasterThe ES3000 has the same motor as the RX300. Like Joe says replace the spark plugs. There are not any wires . There are 6 ignition coils. Usually they do not need replaced. Autozone can check them or use a voltage tester to see if you get the same readout then they are o.k.
12/24/2010 angieI just got a tune up and all 6 plugs were changed. Could my coils be messed up already -
12/25/2010 HouseCallAutoYes, it could be coils. Wait until there are more codes That identify the affected cylinders unless you know them. Repost with the add'l info. -

12/8/2010 yboy82You can purchase a scan tool to be able to diagnose your vehicle with it, to verify if you have a stored trouble code and to verify if all your electrical controls and sensors are still functioning well. You can visit this link to see a list of available scan tool http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/) -
12/8/2010 yboy82If your transmission doesn’t engage the common (but not limited) causes of it are low or no transmission fluid, worn/damage torque converter splines, worn/damaged pump and worn/damage neutral safety switch.
If you diagnose your vehicle with a scan tool the extracted trouble code will help you find the fault of your vehicle’s problem and you can post the code here.

How do I know whether to replace the front/center muffler or the rear muffler?greasenewbie - 1991 Lexus ES250 - Transmissions & Drivetrains - 10/1/2010Overall my car is really loud when I drive it and a little slower on the pickup than it used to be.-
10/1/2010 RCVisually check the exhaust for leaks. Tap the mufflers with a rubber mallet and listen for rattles. Replacing the entire exhaust system may be the best thing to do.
