Hood latch is stuck. cannot open hood, what now, cable is broken

      Here's what I did:

      - jacked the car up
      - removed the undertray
      - worked my hand up to the latch and just pulled on the cable, it opened right up

Conclusion, the wire must have snapped somewhere between the fender and the inside of the car.

How do you check transmission flued?
    • Jimm
      1/3/2012 Jimm
Check the transmission fluid level and condition (color and smell) with the transmission dipstick. The fluid should be warm - not cold - to gain the most accurate reading.

why is my 1999 lexus gs300 tstuck in park!
1 have to push the park lock mechanism manually with screw driver to get it into drive. also have trouble going to reverse from drive. thinking its the pnp switch on the side of the transmission. someone told me they thought it was the solenoid on the shifter ...
    • Jay Giron

Seems the PNP switch is the Park Neutral Position switch which is used to sense the position of the shifter. Sometimes these switches may stick or if the car was started/stopped with the shifter in an "in between" position the computer may have seen it as a malfucntion.

I would suggest clearing the code and seeing if it comes back. If it comes back have the switch replaced. Most times these swicthes are on the side of the transmission.

    $900high preassure transmission fluid line
162,000 miles....when I took car in to mechanic they showed me a slow leak at place where fluid line connects to part, possibly transmission. They told me it would cost $900 to repair the leak. Is this reasonable?

This definitely sounds like too much. Try the 'Find-A-Shop' feature on this website to gain other cost estimates for this repair.
Try the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; or for the replacement parts. For example, the transmission line for your vehicle lists for around $25.00 to $30.00 for the steel pressure line; bulk @ 25 feet length -depending on the inside diameter (5/16" or 3/8") from any local auto parts store; Advance Auto, O' Reilly's, NAPA, Auto Zone.
The transmission pressure line or hose subassembly can even be fabricated locally - for less expense - by an automotive hose shop. Just remove the old one and take to the shop for an exact duplicate - still less than the $900.00.

Thank you. I'll check these other resources to save the $$$$$.

    Proceedure to change transmission filter
What is proper way to change transmission oil and filter
    • Jimm
      11/28/2011 Jimm
Position an oil drain pan under the transmission pan. Loosen and remove the transmission pan mounting bolts - leave maybe two or three to prevent leakage. Slowly, loosen the remaining bolts to allow the fluid to escape from the transmission pan into the drain pan. Remove the transmission pan from the transmission.
Remove the pan gasket. Remove the transmission filter. Clean the gasket mating surfaces.
Install a new filter, gasket and re-install the transmission pan bolts. Do not overtighten.

Try the 'How-To-Guides' feature on this website for the transmission servicing details. Try the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; or for the replacement parts.

    Driveaxle replacement cost
    Need replacement cost
    • Jimm
      11/22/2011 Jimm
The replacement drive axle assembly cost from around $46.00 to around $54.00 - for the CV axle assembly itself. Then factor the labor charge- probably around 2.0 -3.0 hours - maybe $200.00 to $250.00 for labor.

Try the 'Estimate Cost' feature this website for the rough repair cost estimate. Try the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; or for the replacement parts.

Please help with this mysterious code 0500. It is drving me crazy.
