Removal

With your ignition switch OFF, disconnect the battery cables, negative terminal first. Allow 90 seconds to elapse before performing any other work. Remove No. 1 (left) undercover and then remove the lower the finish panel, then detach the connectors and hose from the pad. Remove the console box assembly. Remove the lower center instrument panel

And then disconnect the wiring connector to the ignition electrical switch. Remove the three screws holding the switch to the ignition lock and remove the switch assembly.

Installation

Install the ignition switch to the ignition lock and install the three (3) screws. And then reconnect the electrical connectors for the ignition switch. Install the components removed earlier.

Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery. And then verify that the ignition switch is operating correctly.

Check the condition and level of the transmission fluid first. Has the fluid and filter ever been changed?

Did you check the engine with a scan tool already? Your engine problem is more likely the throttle position sensor (TPS) is failing; have it verified by a scan tool.

It sounds like the belts (bands) in your transmission are bad or need adjusted ifthat is possible.

Take it to the dealer.They have the right diagnostic skills and equipment for your lexus.

Wasnt able to find anything for the ES but i found one from the LS of the same year, hope it helps in anyway

Here's what I did:

- jacked the car up
- removed the undertray
- worked my hand up to the latch and just pulled on the cable, it opened right up

Conclusion, the wire must have snapped somewhere between the fender and the inside of the car.

Check the transmission fluid level and condition (color and smell) with the transmission dipstick. The fluid should be warm - not cold - to gain the most accurate reading.

Seems the PNP switch is the Park Neutral Position switch which is used to sense the position of the shifter. Sometimes these switches may stick or if the car was started/stopped with the shifter in an "in between" position the computer may have seen it as a malfucntion.

I would suggest clearing the code and seeing if it comes back. If it comes back have the switch replaced. Most times these swicthes are on the side of the transmission.

For example, the transmission line for your vehicle lists for around $25.00 to $30.00 for the steel pressure line; bulk @ 25 feet length -depending on the inside diameter (5/16" or 3/8") from any local auto parts store; Advance Auto, O' Reilly's, NAPA, Auto Zone.
The transmission pressure line or hose subassembly can even be fabricated locally - for less expense - by an automotive hose shop. Just remove the old one and take to the shop for an exact duplicate - still less than the $900.00.
