Car starts But will not shift out of neutral.
My car has 200000 plus miles on it. It starts but cannot shift out of neutral. My dashboard lights have been failing. Is there a fuse in the gears that could have failed?

This could be due to many issues, but your description is somewhat vague. What happens when you press on the accelerator? Does the engine die? Does it rev up but still not move? Do the Rpms simply not increase, and the engine bucks?

The recommended transmission service (per the vehicle maintenance manual) is for a fluid and filter replacement at every 100k miles. Of course, these mileage intervals can be modified - to be more frequent.

The transmission fluid and filter should be changed - not merely flushed - as the filter itself traps impurities which are removed from the transmission, when the old filter is discarded and the new clean fluid is added. This service is recommended and is superior to the transmission flush. Generally, avoid the transmission (and any automotive system) flush services when offered.

The transmission filter kit (filter and gasket) parts only (such as Fram FT1232) costs around $21.00 from these on-line auto parts sources; www.partsgeek.com, www.rockauto.com, www.discountautoparts.com, www.autopartswarehouse.com, www.jcwhitney.com - to list only a few possibilities.

Transmission slipping after 10-20 minutes of drive.
I'm see if it's a common problem in these models and if there's a easy fix. Trying to buy this car.

Engine seems to run okay but car doesn't seem to want to shift from low gear to higher gear. This problem just happened
At highway speeds when going up a hill car doesn't seem to want to downshift into lower gear when I expect that it would do so. In other words, it seems to lug like hell so that I can barely make it to top of hill. It has been doing this for several months.

Need more information - what is the specific fault code? Please post a reply with the fault code from the OBD system for further assistance.

Most local auto parts stores can scan the OBD for any stored fault codes - for free. Then post a reply with this detail - as there are too many possibilities to list to cause the syptoms you have described. In order to save time and repair cost - the fault code retrieval is an absolute must have.

      Possible causes:
      - Low transmission fluid level
      - Dirty transmission fluid
      - Faulty shift solenoid valve
      - Shift solenoid valve harness or connectors
      - Shift solenoid valve circuit is open or shorted

First step - check the transmission fluid level and refill as required to the proper level. If the fluid level is OK and the fluid condition is healthy - meaning both the filter and fluid has been changed regularly, then you will have to have the transmission diagnosed / tested
