      Yeah because yours is motorized and a lot of people are having problems with it.

      For future readers, I have replaced the tilt motor with a unit from Toyota. The updated part number was 89231-60022. There were only minor changes to the design.

      The installation was not without challenges. First of all, mucking around with the old motor had resulted in the fault codes being set, so that the "Tilt and Telescopic ECU" would not try to run the motor. This meant that the new motor didn't run when I first plugged it in, which was a little disconcerting. However disconnecting the batteries for half an hour reset the ECU and fixed that problem.

      I also found that the motor had to be screwed in to the threaded adjusting nut exactly the correct number of turns in order to have the steering wheel tilt the full range. The motor only does three revolutions and then stops, in either direction. By correctly fitting the motor it stops before the circlips on the threaded screw hit the threaded adjusting nut. Correct fitment means that the motor doesn't try to continue rotating after it has hit the hard stop of the circlips, which could result in triggering a fault code, or damaging the motor.

      I couldn't remove the threaded adjusting nut from the steering column to clean it out, and since I wanted remove most of the old grease including in the adjusting nut, I screwed the old motor into the nut and cleaned away the grease it pushed out. Since I didn't care about the old motor, I screwed it in as far as it would go, and about half a turn more, which of course rotated the spindle in the motor. The spindle of both the old and new motors can't be turned by hand.

      When I had unscrewed the old motor I plugged it in again and surprise surprise it worked. Not as well as the new one, but it did rotate three full turns in each direction, the same as the new one.

      So, either the old motor always worked, but the fault codes were set so that the ECU didn't try to run it. I don't think this was the case though, because I had had the batteries disconnected for extended periods previously, and the tilt motor never started working. The other possibility is that by pulling it apart and reassembling, then rotating it half a turn, the motor was reset back into a functioning starting point. That is, previously it had been rotated out of its range of operation somehow, perhaps because of an overload cause by lack of lubrication, and rotating it back into its range of operation enable it to work again.

      I did have Lexus look at the motor once because it was a bit noisy, so maybe they pulled it out, incorrectly reinstalled it, leading to an overload, or they just rotated the motor out of its operating range. They looked at it a second time when it stopped working, and declared that the motor had failed. Now I know better.

      Anyway, I installed the new motor, since I had it, and the old one can be a spare, or get recycled some time. The lack of solutions offered in this thread would imply that this is a rare issue. Maybe other Lexus dealers know how to grease a thread, and correctly use the diagnosis tools available to them. The tilt motor seems to be pretty robust if understood and treated right.

      This is a problem ubiquitous to 1993 Lexus LS400 models. The factory simply manufactured defective circuit boards (there are three) that fit inside and make the instrument cluster work. DO NOT take it to a dealer or shop. Simply contact BBA Remanufacturing Inc., 1-866-573-2740, in Taunton, MA. They will tell you how to remove the cluster and they will send UPS by your house to pick it up in a box you supply, pad well with plastic bubbles, and seal with shipping tape. They will get the cluster, fix everything fine, ship it back to you in about 10 to 14 days from receipt and you simply install it again. You can drive the car [but illegally] without the cluster [since you have no speedometer] and the only effect is that the miles you put on without the cluster won't register. Many outfits claim to fix these clusters [the problem was so big a whole industry got started just over the 1993 LS400 instrument cluster fault) but BBA is the only one that fixes the problem and warranties their work practically forever. In 2008, I first sent my cluster to some place in Tennesee and got it back all screwed up and not functioning at all. Then went to BBA. After 3 years, the lights went off again so I called. They sent UPS to pick up the box, fixed it better than ever, sent it back and charged me ZERO - no shipping cost either way either. They called it warranty work since the 2008 fix went south. Getting the cluster out is simple once you have done it - remove the dash panel around your key, it pulls out with a little prying with soft tools. Oh, remember to move the steering column down to its lowest position and out as far as the steering wheel will go first. Then there are three screws at the top of the black plastic shroud in front of the cluster: one in the center and one each at either side. Remove them with a SHORT screwdriver and then pry it out top first. It is connected by two sets of wires (one on each side) to sockets. Pinch the center pin to remove the sockets and the shroud should fall out easily. Then there are 5 or 6 screws holding the cluster itself to the back of the panel. These come out easily but once the cluster is unscrewed, you still have to disconnect 3 (three) sets of wire connectors in the rear. For this, my advice is to get a very small but well trained monkey whose hands will fit behind the panel and can pinch the center pins locking each together. Without such a monkey, you will find that disconnecting these sockets sets drives you crazy, but it can be done. I take about two hours. I've seen a skilled mechanic remove them in two minutes. But once they are disconnected, the cluster pops into your lap. Wrap it in plastic, pack it in bubbles, box the whole thing up and call BBA at the number above. UPS will arrive the next day, put an address label on it and take it away. When it comes back reverse the above instructions (it's easier to put in than to take out).

      Did you already diagnose your vehicle with a scan tool/code reader to determine what the stored troublecode is? The extracted troublecode will help you identify the fault why you warning light are on.

    What are my options for replacing a burned out headlamp? Are there advantages to Halogen or HIR, if that is an option?
    Would like to upgrade to newest technology if possible for my year.

      I believe halogens are your only option, but they do have ones that are brighter than stock you just have to pay more, always replace headlights in pairs , also polishing your lenses could make a lot of difference if they are hazy, they make repair kits that are pretty easy to use for that

      Condensation occurs in the headlight due to poor sealant. Rubber gasket is cracked / deteriorated. It may be either resealed or replaced.
      Try the many on-line auto parts sources, such as; www.RockAuto.com or www.autopartswarehouse.com for the replacement parts.

    The shop replaced my headlight unit, but headlight does not rotate when turning my steering wheel anymore. Any ideas?
    The complete headlight unit was replaced as well as the computer panel located just below the headlight. The AFS is "On" and the left side turns, but the right side does not, which is the side where I hit a deer.
